My eldest - 12 had homework on sequences. Most were straightforward, however, this one had me baffled 7, 5, 2, 1.

Anyone help?

It's a mis-print

should read 7,6,5,4,3,2,1
Next number is 0
Happy

seriously, it's not a sequence as differences between numbers show the pattern.

If you use magic triangles to reduce you get
7 5 2 1
2 3 1
  1 2
   1
which does not seem to work. Are you sure that the question has not been cattled?

7 5 3 1
2 2 2
0 0   for example works. Not that you would need to use anything other than observation to solve it.
