Brown Panther was put down at The Curragh late this afternoon, after a sudden injury

"It's the saddest day of my life. The toughest, most honest,
brilliant horse I will ever set eyes on passed away today doing the thing he loved the most.
A shattered hind leg that was irreparable according to the first class team at the Curragh ended his life.
I was with him when he was born, shared an experience for seven years that will never be repeated
and gave him his last kiss goodbye.
What an honour to own and breed him. I love you Panther, life will not be the same without you."

I read it on the horse forum and it brought a lump to my throat. They were very nice words by Owen and he meant them. He's always loved BB.

Very moving.
It isn't often you get to see this most touching side of the sport, as whenever there's tragedy it's usually sort of glossed over and forgotten.

I was thinking, seeing the thread header, that Poppydog was being sarcastic and that Owen(lets face it he was as robotic as most footballers of the last twenty years in interviews) had actually spoken on this occasion in the manner of a thirty second post match pitch side interview with John Motson following a 1-1 draw at Barnsley on a Tuesday night.  Seems I was wrong, didnt think Owen had it in him.
