A chap I work with is sick constantly.
Always says it's the sign of being run down.
I think he runs himself down with that kind of attitude.

My dog was extremely ill after he ate my cloth cap.

The vet said it was because of my hat he chewed.

Is it the illnesses that cause the attitude?
Generally speaking though, I'd agree that your general level of happiness or otherwise does have an impact upon your health. Placing losing bets can't be healthy and virtually everyone places more of those than winning ones.

I said to him he should try to not think like that stow but it's his mentality.
He can't stop thinking he's run down and I think that makes it worse

Quite possibly. I generally loathe the positive-thinking brigade, but every time I feel myself coming down with something I tell myself I'm not going to be made ill by some little bits of bacteria/virus and try to fight it off, and I hardly ever get sick.

Obviously it could still be bullsh*t, though.

'A man shall be satisfied by the fruit of his lips' - Proverbs 12:14.

Definitely helps to be positive..think good thoughts, say good things.

Let your words be sweet, as one day you may have to eat them.

If your attitude didn't affect your body the placebo effect wouldn't exist, and that's been proven so you've got to think it does.

Also I'm sure studies will have proved it does have an effect, it must've been researched?

The placebo effect is different in that you actually believe that something will make you better.  Just saying positive things that deep down you don't believe are true doesn't work.

Certainly the opposite (kind of) of a positive attitude, letting yourself get stressed, is proven to be bad for your health.
