"Heroes" the last great single.
Sometime between then and the end of the Seventies he had his teeth straightened. Not an issue for most, but he could barely play a guitar, so his voice was all, and he messed with it. And never spoke again to the masses.

Quality analysis of popular music...! Grin

I had a girlfriend who played Bowie music in the car when she was driving. Bowie was her hero. I was familiar with NONE of it, even though I knew the hits, etc. But it always struck me that Bowie was a poor man's Anthony Newley who poached other people's ideas and got lucky...a bit like a male Madonna, really...Mischief

From t'Internet :

“As early as 1972, Bowie was describing himself as ‘a collection of other people’s ideas’ "

not possible to write a great song after the age of 30..where are we now as close as anyone gets.
Report jed.davison September 2, 2015 8:14 PM BST
All the brilliant, ground-breaking, incomparable albums he made before 1980 were other people's ideas reworked? Sorry, not having it.

Wasn't having his teeth done that did him in, was giving up the smack.

Still the greatest. Still.

One thing I have learned from Betfair : Led Zep and Bowie fans are very zealous to guard the reputations of their......Heroes. Plain

I fully accept that he stole other people's ideas, as you rightly point out he has admitted that on several occasions. But he also had a few of his own I reckon, all drug-induced maybe but still his own.

Was listening to Scary Monster earlier today, pure magic.

Overrated 1970's pap, very cheesy style over substance, few great songs, never knew who he was and kept changing to stay modern rather than be himself, weak voice.

"Si sólo hubiera compuesto la cancioncilla conocido como El Gnomo de Risa...er...um... riendo pudiera haber guardado mis pinceles para siempre, en el gran armario donde González el cocinero cuelga todas las palomas muertas y aves de caza , al lado del vinagre sabrosa él hace de la uva! Basturts! Love" P. Picasso.

Translated : " If only I had composed the ditty known as The Laughing Gnome...I could of (sic) put away my paintbrushes forever, in the big cupboard where Gonzalez the cook hangs all the dead pigeons and game birds, next to the tasty vinegar he makes from grapes." P. Picasso.

Jed, I hope you are not IMPLYING that I just made up that quote??!! And that it took me HALF-A-FECKING-HOUR of intense concentration??!?! Crazy

Considering PP died about five years after the song was made, I reckon it's a strong possibility.

What.....PACO Picasso....? Excited

I would not say that every artist burns out by thirty. but must be more prevalent in music where looks are 85% of the deal. Makes the artist desperate to give everything early perhaps. lack of drugs could be a factor in Bowie s demise but I think the greater part was the dentistry; the new grill was the final  barrier between his creativity and his audience.
