...from what they have played of their 'great moments' on the news it sounded like a right shower of shyte that they churned out. Dreadful stuff. Where's me washboard.

You weren't a child of the forties Roger?
Wonder what your grand and great-grand children will make of YOUR music era?
That's how light entertainment was then - don't knock it!
Report Roger The Butler September 1, 2015 10:42 PM BST
Nonsense, One Direction and Justin Bieber are surely timeless acts?

You're right Ivor - was obviously deemed decent back then but fecking hell it was awful what they played. And that was the good bits.

God awful stuff but every era has God awful stuff, Justin Beiber and katy perry videos are in the billions of views, literally. And their multi millionaires, at least back in the day it was more of an honest modest  living.

Joy and Billy Wright were the Posh and Becks of their day apparently.
I expect in 40 odd years time, they will play Victorias greatest hits, and youre grandson will say the same thing......hopefully Grin

You mostly missed the point.  They were once erotic objects - and three at once.  How many of you have had 3 simultaneously?  The singing wasn't that bad, given the often average songs.  Anyway, in those grey days they were a splash of colour.  Don't make me punish you.

He was, but like the rest he was torn apart by the Hungarians. Not that even I remember that, but the footage is there for all to see.

Funnily enough I was bowling today with an ex pro ( goalkeeper ) & he said  played against Lev Yashin, that was some team, how they never won the world cup is really hard to fathom.

Politics and drugs.  Lots of drugs and lots of politics.  Plus half of them defected as soon as they were out of the country.

Cheeky Wink

Known Vic Rouse for over ten years now, was on a coach today going to Clacton to play a match, said he also played against Santos  & Real Madrid for Crystal Palace, just looked up the Real Madrid match which was in 1962 to celebrate their new floodlights, apparently it was 4-0 or 4- 1 at half time & they replaced Vic at Half time, final score was 4 -3, also played santos in a friendly with Pele in the team

I remember Rouse. He played for Slippy's side mainly.

He was probably in goal when Bradford Park Avenue demolished them 6-0. Ask him if he remembers that.
Report kenny mann September 2, 2015 12:17 AM BST
I think it was 5-0 on reflection, one of the first games I ever attended when I was about 10.
Report pumphol. September 2, 2015 12:19 AM BST
I have before, he says he has played against BPA, though a game like that you would want to forget, moved to Orient then went to the States, came back & managed the Metropolitan Police side that reached the first round in the late 70's & played  Bobby Moore's Southend, he showed me a great picture of  the two next to each other on the touchline, tried to find it on the net but no luck sadly.

We are diminished.

Cheers sisters!
Report kenny mann September 2, 2015 12:57 AM BST
Interesting info. Strangely enough, Palace and Park Avenue had the same sized programmes, the smallest in the league.

Both about 4 inches square.

I remember the Kaye Sisters being around at the same time.
They weren't sisters (well not to each other, they may have been somebody else's sister) - but they looked like sisters.

Must have been the thing in the 1950's, to be or pretend you were siblings and call yourself sisters or brothers... like the Everly Brothers.

Never came across any cousin groups, e.g. Jimmy and his cousins, but we did have Adam and the Ants in the 1970's & 80's.

You are of course correct Rob, I was getting confused with the best team of the 50's with the best goalkeeper of that era Crazy

My dear departed grandfather used to play out in the streets with the Beverley sisters as children.

They were evacuated (obviously far apart) in 1940. The Beverley sisters never returned, but my grandad came back when he was 16 and joined the navy two years later. He lived in Bethnal Green all his life after.

If they were the sex symbols of the day no wonder the Freeman's catalogue became so popular - not good.
Report artie September 4, 2015 2:57 AM BST
They weren't sex symbols, they were singers who could actualy sing, unlike today's useless pop stars.
