Just nine men are registered as donors a year after the opening of Britain's national sperm bank in Birmingham. It is now planning a recruitment drive, with chief executive Laura Witjens saying that appealing to male pride may be an effective way to boost donations.

Why would you do it? it was a way for students to make a bit of money, they changed the rules in 2005 so you could be traced which is the last thing a lot of people want having kids turning up at their doorstep 16 years later, with mothers claiming maintenance and the kids demanding to know their siblings, it's their own fault.
