Story on the oz forum. Health inspector visits Bart's stables. Shakes his head and says to Bart,'you've got too many flies here.' Bart replies,'How many am I allowed to have?'

Yet another legend I had to google.
Seems he had a good run.

Nice interview with Dermot Weld on ATR - he spoke about Bart Cummings with a big beaming grin on his face...although BC was very critical about the European assault on the Melbourne Cup. Dermot Weld claimed BC as an Irishman from Cork...

Didn't BC buy lots of expensive horses at auction in the later part of his career...and he had to re-sell them at a loss...??

He set up a scheme during the loadsamoney 1980s to buy yearlings and syndicate them at a profit. He couldn't, and all the good ones had to be sold without reserve.

That was in 1990, twenty-five years ago, which I suppose is "the later part of his career". Feels about 5 or 6 years ago to me.
