Did you ever discover the answer to your original puzzle, BJK? Regards this one, your mention of out of this world coupled with the Ely Cathedral link made me think of UFOs. There was a very famous sighting in America at a place called Ely.
By:
suppose could be 'UFO', they would be sighted in lots of places though
By:
Very true, Brendan.
It's just that Ely is synonymous with UFOs in America, right up there with Roswell. |
By:
Sheerness seems to have some history with them too

I'm sure they've been reported just about everywhere, though, as you say. And Unidentified Flying Object would be far too easy an answer going by previous examples.

the very first puzzle poker I didn't solve... totally stumped. had to just leave it be as I wasn't getting anything!
I still don't know this one, looked into the UFO route but couldn't find a connection with the other answers. ely/isle of Sheppey/london(shooters hill)/mull of Galloway... I cant find a connection yet but im sure it wont be far away... hoping the link isn't too tenuous. |

Ok guys here is another puzzle.... until we can get any further with the previous!
Below is a set of incomplete coordinates. There will be a code to break the Letters into numbers... then they will replace the numbers in the co-ordinates to find the correct location. Can you work out the values..... BY THE WAY IM STUCK ON ABOUT 50 PUZZLES.... THIS BEING ONE - AND YES IVE SOLVED PLENTY MYSELF. N 54 DK.OFD W 001 IT.KMF The only clues are that letters A to T are replaced by numbers 1 to 20 A = 20 and J = 17 Checksum for all digits in co-ords is 58 |
By:
any ideas?
By:
They are possibly letters in a well known phrase. J is the 17th letter in "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" but A is not the 20th unfortunately, it is the 30th. You might wish to sub the letters in your puzzle to see it it makes sense.
By:
yeah I get you mate, substituted but its not fitting. nice idea though and one id not thought of... gonna think down those lines for a bit see if anything crops up.
some of these puzzles are a bit difficult! |
By:
D = 4
K = 3 O = 8 F = 6 I = 2 T = 5 M = 7 |
By:
Checksum for all digits in co-ords is 58, Yours totals 48 FlowerMyth.

sorry, you're right, hadn't included the given ones 54 and 001

how did you get to those values flower?
By:
No worries, Foinavon. I take it that's the correct answer - smashing, super, great!
By:
it is yes! but id love to know how you got to those values of the letters.. can you explain please?
By:
My joke clue fell flat - it's just a dartboard starting at 20 = A and going clockwise. The fact there was 20 numbers and no zero is what made me think of it.
By:
brilliant. that is very clever, never crossed my mind at all. I tip my hat to you sir.
By:
here is a cryptic clue to a number that im stuck on... done the first 13 of them and need this last one. Its to do with music and it should give me a one digit number.
TEMPERATURE CHALLENGED SIMIANS PARTY SONG? |
By:
Something to do with the Arctic Monkeys?
By:
No 1.Party Anthem?
By:
party anthem No1 is the only number I could find relating to simian unless im missing something
By:
party anthem No1 is indeed correct. I don't really see the temperature connection though.
Cheers |
By:
Temperature challenged monkeys I guess would be cold ones, not a great clue.
What about the puzzles you've posted previously - the 4 pics above and the 2d, 70d and the days of christmas ones on another thread, are they still unsolved? |
By:
both still unsolved. not a lot you can do when you've run our of ideas and forumites have drained their own resources.
I have plenty more unsolved puzzles... |

Ok guys heres another :-
SMALL+CACHE = HIDDEN where the letters stand for the digits 0 to 9. The cache is located at: North SS° HS.EHN West IIH° SD.EMH Now I know S=5, I=0, H=1 I know that because of the location that my find will be in (its in the north east area and its within one mile of a pub so would have to start N55 and W001. Hopefully my tiny start helps you guys work out how you ascertain the right code for each letter to make it work. |
By:
any ideas to this puzzle?
By:
I've just come in and have been working on it. See if you agree with me, I'm not sure but:
C = 4 I think, because 5 + C = 10. C can't be 5 because we know S = 5. So it must be something + a carried 1. Obviously anything below 4 won't work. So it must be 4, C = 4. That means also that M + A must be more than 9 (in order for there to be a 1 to carry). So M or A must be one of 6,7,8 or 9. Here's what I make it so far: +5MALL +4A41E 10DDEN |
By:
Sorry M and A must both be higher than 5
By:
No ignore that, M and A being 6,7,8 or 9 is wrong...
By:
M+A must equal 9 or 10.
If M+A = 10, A must be 3 or 2 (otherwise the next pair would carry over) If M+A = 9, A must be 6 or 7 and M be 3 or 2 |
By:
Might be wrong here,
I've got M = 3 and A = 8 answer = 1022EN What do you think? |
By:
If M +A = 11 then I can not be 0 therefore false.
By:
No I'm wrong as there is an extra digit. you could be right.
By:
I don't think I am, can't get LL+1E to work without carrying over to the third column. May have to abandon this for the night. |
By:
so if true we have 6, 7, 9 for L, E, N
L =7 E=9 N=6 Think that works. |
By:
Brilliant F, I think you cracked it
