I have just made the mistake of buying a computer from PC World. It has Windows 8.1 on it and the only way I can stop the adverts from blaring out is by turning the volume down. A ****g nightmare made in China. Can I remove everything on it and replace it with my old Windows system? If so what is a fair amount to pay someone for doing the job? Thank you.

do you have the installation software for your old version of windows.

and NEVER EVER go into a PC world and buy anything again.

I am barred anyway for they foisted a Direct Debit on me. I took exception.

No I do not ,unfortunately. If I could find a set can it be done?
Report MisterBadger August 21, 2015 12:38 PM BST
yes it could be done - what version of windows were you on before?
Report dunlaying August 21, 2015 12:55 PM BST
I do not know. I have had it for six years and it does what I want it to do...eventually.

Oh no, with my temper the computer would be in bits. Ok thank you very much.

Windows 10 is spying on you. It can stop any illegal software running on your pc.

I'd rather move to North Korea than install windows 10.

I'd be charging at least a ton. Here's what the computer guy has to do...

1. Back up your stuff you want to keep

2. Clean install your operating system (so basically formatting your existing hard drive and installing a copy of Windows 7...I wouldn't upgrade to 10 until all the bugs are sorted...plus its the most intrusive operating MS have ever released)

3. Install all of the drivers that you need...this can be a pain...I did one recently that was a windows 8.1 to windows 7 job and finding the drivers was a nightmare...it can take a lot of time.

4. Install all of the windows updates.

5. Put all your backed up stuff on your HD

6. Install some kind of anti virus/internet security product (unless you don't really care about that kind of thing in which case you'll be taking it back in a few weeks to get all the malware removed).

Top tip...if you want to get a hold of a copy of the software and a licence key for not much cash I can recommend pay4keys.org...I've used them a few times and never had an issue...I am not affiliated in any way to this company by the way.

Good luck.

There is nothing to keep but if it is going to be trouble I will buy another computer and send the offender to Africa where it can drive some other poor soul balmy.

I said that as a throwaway line but it makes sense to draw a line under the whole sorry episode and start again.

Have you tried a spyware/ adware forum? Press Ctrl, Alt Del and run the task manager. Look at the processes that are running in the background and Google them. Some are system critical processes but some will be spyware/ adware. Once you Google them, search to see how to remove them.

Chit Chat is not the best place to ask TBH.

If you do a factory reset they will reinstall tahnks to PCWorld so that's not an option. You don't need to spend money to fix this however.

Windows 8 is a pile of sh*t. There are many ways to cut down volume, either the physical amp volume of the laptop or whatever. If it's from adware, try some adware remmover software to ditch it.
AFAIK you can roll back from 8 to 7 but I, as others say, might upgrade to 10.
I like 7, hate 8 as it's a pile of sh1t, but 10 is the future and if we get it for free..
8 is usable if you spend time configuring it. Well maybe. But it's sh1t.
