The news report said Paul had sent a condolence ham to the family.

Seems a bit odd.

Pennsylvania Sympathy Ham

****speck The Germans have a wonderfully exact word (is there any other kind in German?) called ****speck. Idiomatically, it refers to weight gained from emotional overeating. Literally, it means “grief bacon.” In the part of Pennsylvania where I grew up, we had a similar term. We called it “sympathy ham.”.......cont

.....Sympathy ham only came around when there’d been a death in the family. Where others might bring casseroles or stews or things like that, the people of Wayne County brought ham. Lots and lots and lots of ham. Baked ham, smoked ham, ham sandwiches, ham soup, and yes, ham casseroles. Glorious, salty ham.

As she was a big fan of Thatcher I would imagine she is about as popular in Liverpool as crabs at a gangbang.

Give her credit, where credit is due....she stood up to the scousers when it was needed.

The coverage has been OTT. That brings out a response on here and elsewhere.

There will be people who have done the most incredible things with their lives, but die in obscurity.

We seem obsessed with tv personalities.

The blame for that lies firmly and squarely at the feet of the general public yet the usual suspects on here see it as an excuse to have a go at Cilla.

Celebs are fair game, why should we pretend we give a toss.  It all becomes a bit of a media fed grief fest.  Give it a few weeks and the stories about her negative side will start to appear.

Fair game for what? Having a go at when they die?
Got to agree about the grieving part. Like the Diana thing I could never understand anyone other than family and friends crying.
Might be sad but certainly no more than that as none of the general public knew her..
Although on the other hand why are people so ready to put the boot in. So some didn't like her but then again they didn't know her either.

The link I posted gave some reviews of the way she treated air crew and was done well before she passed away. From the tv coverage you`d think its almost St Cilla thats just died. Im sure she has been pleasant to people as well, but she has had a reputation of being a bit of a cow.

Its the testimony of air crew who have had her on their planes. I`ve never met the woman, and am sure there will be people she has met who have different tales to tell and say she was a saint. Just a case of balance

I read that blog but I've also read other articles where people have been complimentary of her and saying she was down to earth.
Maybe she just wanted a private life and didn't like it being invaded. Lots of stars are like that.

It's well documented that she was a completely hideous, odious woman. I know that first hand from people who met her many times and whose opinion I value. They can't all be wrong..

Sorry to be pedantic but that's second hand. What about all the people who say she is an okay person?
I obviously don't know and the only evidence I've seen is mixed. The aircrews blog isn't favourable but maybe she is just a poor traveller.

Facts ...

John Bishop's from Liverpool so the hypothesis is way off.

The only Liverpudlian that's ever made me laugh is, er, er,

oh, yes, Ken Dodd getting found not quilty of the Tax Evasion thing - now I did laugh when I heard the verdict.

(BTW my mother-in-law was treasurer of a club that put on Ken Dodd and we went and he was very funny ... insisted in being paid in cash! ... before the court case)
