Got little time for rap, but this guy is the b.ollox.   Anyone heard of him?

Lose yourself, stan, just lose it, till I collapse ..... for a start.

The Way I am.  Is indeed a masterpiece.  Always liked eminem, but been proper listening to him recently and he is head and shoulders above any other rap I've ever heard.  A musical genius and no mistake.

Massive when I was at school but once he got all of the anger out of him from his childhood onto his records, he mellowed as he got older and his music struggled to sell and he looked desperate for a hit, not helped by the fact he kept trying to plug his rubbish D-12 band.

Scandavaian-heaven that is complete boll0cks even by forum standards!! Laugh

Recovery (2010) sold about a gazillion copies and was one of the top selling albums in USA that year. It also completely rewrote digital downloads and stream records. Not to mention the 650million youtube views not afraid has or the 910million views love the way you lie has

Best rapper alive by a mile. Still ain't 2pac though. The 2pac/eminem remixes on YouTube are the best things on the Internet (except eporner obviously)

Of course they sold, but selling albums and having a hit are two completely different things, when established acts with huge followings release albums years later when they are past their best/sell by date, they will still sell, the likes of Madonna or Elton John could release greatest hits albums today, again, or make brand new stuff and they'd still sell millions, even if it's cack. When I say hit, I mean a quality song or album, Youtube Views doesn't equate to quality. Justin Bieber has 1.2 BILLION views for what is one of the crappest pop songs of all time.

However, the collaboration with Rihanna was a rare genuinely good track of recent years, but his recent solo stuff is one million miles+ away from the quality of the early 00's, not even remotely close.

And he will never get it back either, because what made him great back in the day was selling a hard luck life story through rap which everyone bought into to, he exhausted that years ago, reminds me of many bands and artist who peak relatively early without ever really having sustained success, such as Oasis, first two albums great, the rest, average by comparison, first was about life on the dole and dreaming of the big time, second was living the dream, third onwards was, well wtf do we do now, no substance from then onwards. Once you've finished writting about your experience, all you have to fall back on in songwriting terms in the NOW, and that usually doesn't cut it.

Btw, when I say his music struggled to sell, that is the wrong term, but I am comparing it  to his early period 99-04, he sold more and had more revered hits, the early stuff will be played in 50 years, the last two albums a lot less so.

Fans of Eminen should check out the Colbert show from last month,
when they take over a backwater TV studio in Michigan

Very funny at times from both guys

Eminem's lyrics are very very clever. And the way he raps the words to the underlying beat is sheer brilliance.

Anyone can talk fast over a a catchy melody/hook......the only reason the song Stan was so big was the Dido bit....FACT!

So you dont think the story told during that song helped ?
By:

The best version of Stan was by custardcream (or whatever) which shat all over the original and thankfully wasn't accompanied by the quite dreadful Dido.

This is how it should be done. Untouchable, smooth as silk, ground breaking, game changing.
When Rakim hit the scene everyone just bowed their ass down, and marvelled at how somebody could change the whole sport with such a totally opposite approach to the way everyone else was doing it.
27 years old and still one of the greatest of all-time.
