There has been a large explosion close to a shrine in the centre of the Thai capital, Bangkok.
The BBC's Jonathan Head, who is at the scene, says there appear to be both dead and injured, amid a huge amount of chaos.
He says there is a massive amount of damage and a crater that indicates this could be a bomb.
Our correspondent says that if it is a bomb, this would be a rare attack for the capital.

Looks more likely to be against the Junta , as bBC is calling them :

Wiki :

2014 Thai coup d'état
On 20 May 2014 the Thai army declared martial law and began to deploy troops in the capital. They denied that it was a coup attempt.[62] On 22 May, the army announced that it was a coup and that it was taking control of the country and suspending the country's constitution.[63][64] On the same day, the military imposed a curfew between the hours of 22:00–05:00, ordering citizens and visitors to remain indoors during this period.[65][66][67][68][69] On 21 August 2014 the National Assembly of Thailand elected the army chief, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, as prime minister. Martial law was declared formally ended on 1 April 2015.[citation needed]

BBC :

The explosion was on the Ratchaprasong intersection, which has been the centre of political demonstrations in recent years.
Our correspondent says bomb attacks in Bangkok are extremely rare.
There has been a Muslim insurgency, but this has been largely confined to the south of the country and attacks rarely take place elsewhere.
But Bangkok has seen a decade of sometimes violent rivalry between political factions.
The military took over ruling the country in May last year, removing an elected government following months of unrest.

I stayed at the Hotel Malaysia back in 1988 - or thereabouts.

The Thais are the most peace loving people I've ever met.

More smoke and mirrors here.

Btw, how's Brazily?

Has anyone asked a BBC Security Correspondent whether he thinks it's a Lone Wolf 'Extreme Right-Wing' Terrorist yet ?   I know he had his suspicions that such a type of person might have been responsible for the Canadian Parliament shooting, before the 1.01 backers collected on a Peace-Loving type.

Yup, looks like more staged smoke and mirrors to me.

Watch the video very carefully ... especially from the start.

He'd had too much sauce, AP, they have a camera tracking the bomber so he had alerted suspicions...

How long before he set down back pack and the bomb going off?
