Report Foinavon August 17, 2015 3:59 PM BST
Doesn't he look cute?
Yes, he's sitting on a pot of begonias on the edge of the patio, some lobelia flowers to his left.

..he does...a handsome chap.....whats he munching on....bread???
Report Foinavon August 17, 2015 4:11 PM BST
Yes, it's a piece of bread put out for the wood pigeons. he chases them off to get his share.

There is a large oak tree at the end of the garden which is a squirrel magnet when the acorns ripen. Unfortunately they dig holes everywhere, especially in the lawn, to bury them.

...an oak tree at the end of the garden.....

..you are very lucky foinavon......the Oak Tree....one of natures most potent magnets....supports so many species in one way or another...

what's that phallic looking object next to the squirrel ... is it some sort of fertility symbol?
Report Foinavon August 17, 2015 5:16 PM BST
Haha very observant mememe. Sorry to disappoint but it's an ornament of an old man sitting on a bench, the part you can see is his hat. I've been meaning to paint it in realistic colours for a long time but haven't got round to it yet.

The oak tree is centuries old and provides me with shade on hot summer days and leaves for composting in the Autumn, egner.
As well as food for squirrels it's a look out perch for birds before they descend to the bird table. I'm sure that some of them find caterpillars under the leaves to eat too. One summer I noticed a continuous line of ants running up and down the trunk. My thought was that they were milking aphids feeding on new shoots at the top of the tree and bringing food back to the nest. It definitely brings life to the garden.

One of life's greatest pleasures - a lovely garden with trees, plenty of nature around, nice weather, a good book and a glass of red wine.
