IAAF suspends 28 athletes after retesting drug samples...

According to the world governing body, a large majority of the athletes are retired with "very few" still active.


"The IAAF is provisionally suspending them," it said in a statement.

Bet they are really worried now in retirement

Don't know whether to applaud IAAF for suspending these athletes or laugh at them for taking so long.

Shows what happens when they give out  a paltry 2 year bans for cheating.
Most cheats reckon it's worth the risk as they can  make a fortune , then have a nice 2 year rest.
And in some cases, have two, 2 year rests

The governing body appear to have had a bit of a change of mind then from a few days back, when the allegations of widespread doping were considered rather sensationalist.

These mass suspensions, however ludicrously late, are surely unprecedented in track and field?

I'm a big fan of retrospective testing.  Done properly it would be by far the most powerful anti-doping tool for anyone seriously trying to clean up sport.  Which is why it so rarely happens. 

Unfortunately in this case it's just as likely they've been sitting on these results for years and are just releasing them now because they need a win.  Look how tough on dopers we are.  Who'll be on the list ? Russian hammer-throwers, turkish runners and spanish walkers for sure. High-profile english-speaking athletes ? Unlikely

The sport is in such a mess and state of denial that the best thing that could happen is for Gatlin to beat Bolt and beat him well in the World Championships.

Then sponsors , fans  , tv commentator & companies and who knows even the IAAF can decide is this really worth bothering with !

So they're going to hang out to dry a few old has-beens and pretend the current product is clean. Not going to wash for a second.
