Late sixties...out with the rest of the management (all wearing "Brut") for lunch at "The Skanda Grill" in the "Merrion Centre", and then walkabout in the shops.
Can't recall which shop, but we all had the hots for a suit in a striking new colour, which I think was "Aubergine" by description, but was something else altogether!
I bought one on the first weekend without knowing that the MD bought one too.
Imagine how we looked on the Monday, both with the same suit, and stinking of "Brut"!

Yep, had one then, a rather natty check number which I wore to work. Someone was wearing a similar one on that series where they 'fire up the Quattro', can't remember the name.

I looked very dapper (so I thought!) ... John Collier, not a cheap C&A one.
Oh I almost forgot - about 15 years ago i bought a rather expensive distressed leather brown jacket (I never learn) ... only wore it a couple of times until younger daughter saw me in it and said I looked like a Geography teacher! Never again.

My first suit for work was a three piece brown one, 1972, think it was £20 from Dales in Penge.
Talking about this with my mates and it seemed all of us had a brown suit.

Early teens and limited cash, but I bought a suit from somewhere in "Upper Brigate" Leeds (only giving the location for kenny mann, who might relate to this) Can't be sure of the price but circa £12.00 comes to mind.
Looking back it was ghastly, in cheap "Duffle Coat" type material (very similar to my dad's World War 2 uniform!
It was green, with an overprinted black "Dog tooth Check" design.
It was heavy, and dull, and lifeless, and I wore it with a white shirt, yellow tie and crepe soled "Beetle Crushers".
On the first time of wearing it I was back in the same place, and got "Wolf Whistles" from the guys on scaffolding, at "Lewis's Department Store".
My God I must have looked sensational, and if "Haute Couture" was not invented they would have to have created it just for me!

your post conjured up a distressing image ... I'm starting to be sorry I started this thread.
Maybe tomorrow we can ask forumites to tell us about their first holiday away without their parents ... where, who with, what happened sort of thing ...?
