well its a geocache puzzle in the north eats of England. the name of it is "watch out the Russians are coming" but the title wont give a clue to the puzzle.
I have no idea how to go about this puzzle but geocaching puzzle are often very difficult and sometimes require ciphers, something i am no good with. Basically in geocaching puzzles they give you a puzzle, no tips on how to solve the puzzle or how to go about it. to find the geocache you must work out the puzzle, which should give you end co-ordinates. with those co-ordinates you then go out and find the geocache. For those that have never tried geocaching its worth it if you like walks, getting out and about. particularly for familys with kids (6 upwards I would say). normal geocaches don't require a puzzle to be solved they just give you the co-ordinates then you got to arrive at the co-ordinates and locate the geocache (it could be anything from the size of your hand to as small as a thumb nail. easier to geocaching to be honest. But for those into puzzles of all degrees of difficulty, geocaching on premium membership (£7.99 for 3 months, not recurring) you can try the puzzles and believe me some are very difficult but worth the effort. geocaches get rated between 1 and 5 for difficulty and terrain. this is a D5/T5 which is why its so bloody difficult and so awkward to get when you get to the coordinates! a 1/1 would be on a lamp post or on a gate. hope all the above makes sense! |

lol nooooooooo D5/T5 i have completed they are the hottest ones about. one D5/T5 near my house is a tree climb. no puzzle in volved but its right at the top of a monster tree. and right out on a branch. about 8 people have found it, opened it and signed the log but most look at it, realise even with ropes etc its just too risky still and leave it. you don't wanan risk your life for one! hence why im resorting to a puzzle cache that is a 5/5/
here is an example of one i completed. this was a D3/T1.5 The following are all notable english figures from the 17th, 18th and 19th century that can be identified by the clues to their achievements. What connects them? In no particular order: A. A law maker with his feet firmly on the ground. B. A hopeful composer who can always be found on the promenade. C. An engineer with connections. Reg knows him. D. A pioneer, a ministering angel and namesake. Could you hold a light to her? E. A manufacturer and lunartick, hard pressed to be head over heals and rarely copied. F. The name of the establishment that connects them (three words) Once you've identified the figures and the connection, you will be easily able to assign a number associated to each of them. Use those numbers to complete the sums whose answers complete the final coordinates to the cache. G. The number associated with figure A H. The number associated with figure B I. The number associated with figure C J. The number associated with figure D K. The number associated with figure E L. Kin - there will be an answers for each letter a-j which will just give a one digit number to which i then replace with the letters that cover up the co-ordinates at the start of the puzzle. There is an answer checker i can use once i have the co-ordinates

to go to the exact geocache location (to within 1 metre) i need exact co-ordinates. 24km north could be very vague and i don't have co-ords to puts in... eg N54.12.234 w001.23.234

In your new puzzle,blackjackking, are they all figures found on bank notes? Eg Elgar, Florence Nightingale,etc.

yes very good foinavon. so once you have all the answers they will equate to numbers, put them in the puzzle instead of the letters and you have the exact co-ordaintes to go and find the geocache (however it is in newcastle so far too far for most of you!)

ive asked fellow puzzlers to help with no luck, no joy with puzzlers on here. its not impossible as I do know about a dozen people have cracked it, maybe more. But just non I know |

Lying in bed last night I was thinking about the possibility of the puzzle being a hexadecimal conversion.
A. 6d in hexadecimal could be represented as 109 in decimal, 1101101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 4. B. 70d in hexadecimal could be represented as 1805 in decimal, 11100001101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 7. C. 20d in hexadecimal could be represented as 525 in decimal, 1000001101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 6. D. 40d in hexadecimal could be represented as 1037 in decimal, 10000001101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 6. E. 40d in hexadecimal could be represented as 1037 in decimal, 10000001101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 6. F. 10d in hexadecimal could be represented as 269 in decimal, 100001101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 5. G. 2d in hexadecimal could be represented as 45 in decimal, 101101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 3. H. 40d in hexadecimal could be represented as 1037 in decimal, 10000001101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 6. I. 0d in hexadecimal could be represented as 13 in decimal, 1101 in binary, and with logarithm value of 2. The problem here, of course, is that zero is specified and not 0d. no ive not mate, looked through geocachingtoolbox dot com but no ciphers or code crackers on there to solve this one.
here is another im stuck on that i need cracking... apparently its easier but still a head scratcher. The cache is hidden at North AA BC.DEF West BBG HJ.KLM Where: A= A Partridge in a Pear Tree B= Turtle doves C= French hens D= Calling birds E= Gold rings F= Geese a-laying G= Swans a-swimming H= Maids a-milking J= Ladies dancing K= Lords a-leaping L= Pipers piping M= Drummers drumming Now what i do know is A must = 5 and B must =0, C and G are probably a 1 (about 90% sure) A=5 B=0 C=1 (?) Now i only know A and B value as the co ordinates have to begin like that so to begin 55 is bang on for the area in newcastle that the location is. anyway if someone can crack this code id be chuffed. Hopefully theres a few clever cookies on here to help me with this one |

it's the most readable book on ciphers I know. Takes you from the simplest codes to the most complex "public key" systems in use today. There is also a peek into the future of cryptography. A most interesting read if you like that sort of thing.
According to the well known Christmas carol, your new list goes from 1 to 12 in counting order. How you get to the numbers you want from that information is another story. How do the "days of christmas" match with actual calendar dates? Someone might know. |

looked at the dates but its just not working. Theres a connection there somewhere but nothing that i can see, vowels, scrabble score..
nearest im getting is this... number of letters of the corresponding letter appearing in the line A = ...and a partridge in a pear tree (A appears 5 times) B = Two Turtle doves (0 B`s in this line) C = Three French hens (1 C in this line) but after filling this in its not right... but my first idea for the 5 being A and 0 being B was working... but the least few letters are all ending in 0 or 1... more or less. It doesnt work, but thats just a few ideas ive tried |

the old money doesnt work but nice idea! need to work out the puzzle to give the exact coordiantes as this is in a moor somewhere near middlesborough, dont think its too close to Hartlepool mind.
The other puzzle with the 12 days of christmas is going nowhere and ive got everyone on the case! |
