in fact I would probably end up blowing it all on stuff for all the stray cats and dogs to eat....and trawling round fields to help abandoned horses and things....

..be nice to be able to do that so I shall continue squirelling a few bits and pieces away!!Wink

Laugh...actually blackbarn that is conservative.....

I really wanted to put 6 to 10,000...

and 1000 to 2000 but I thought the derision would be too much for even me to take!!

It could happen egner, let's hope it doesn't.

We saw what happened in New Orleans when the levees broke a few years back. Law and order broke down in a matter of hours. Our cities are overcrowded with everyone dependent on the continuance of services. Not a happy prospect if anything goes wrong.

Then why in the meltdown scenario you describe do you expect Gold to only triple and Silver to grow by a factor of 16. LaughLaugh

..as most people know blackbarn...

Silver has far far far more potential to rise from its present position than gold.

...I just like thinking about things......trying to work things out.......

.....what has happened...what will happen...why things happen the way they do.......

...trying to get to the bottom of things.........inquisitiveness.....

....difficult sometimes when you havnt got all the info and have to read between the lines in situations....

...it is natural I think.Wink

Just like why there are two l's in bo llocks.

I still like your pictures though.  You need some thistles though, unless you have a lot locally, and brambles for your ringlets (should be a good year this year though for them, at least here in Sussex.

Laughthanks blackbarn...

.........there is a field quite close with an overgrown corner that has lots of brambles.........perhaps that's where the ones visiting the garden came from....or were going to........

I have about 8 clumps of Cirsium rivulare atropurpureum....brook thistle......but disappointingly it has gone over all ready....stopped flowering about 3 weeks ago....flower heads have gone all fluffy.....usually carry on forever.....September at least.......disappointing.

Think they are short lived though so may need more unless they self seed.

Gold isnt the be all and end all..

Example...

If your house, full of family members was burning down and you had to buy one, and only ONE for $5.  Which one would it be, a bucket of water or a bucket of gold?

Egner - lets forget about commodities and concentrate on important things.

Ringlet's main summer feed is bramble flowers, although the larval food plants are grasses. We have lots of both here. The Cirsium is a great plant of a lovely colour, but it is not a proper Thistle in the Buffly or Goldfinch sense. you need the real basic jobs.

Glad your a buffly man, if you are ever down to Sussex pm me, I have a decent meadow, plus access to a proper wood with White Admirables, Purple Emperors and (in season) Duke of Burgundy's.  Been teaching my granddaughter the "browns" today and yesterday. Not easy.

.thanks for the pointers blackbarn.........and sounds great .......if I'm ever down your way I certainly will.........

.....the natural world needs all the friends it can get with the way everything seems to be encroaching on its hitherto pristeen environments........passing info about its simple joys to the next generation is crucial if it's diversity is to be maintained long term.....

..and I know we are moving on from "Commodities " but in a way this is what this thread and my recent posts on other threads relate to.......

..the debt based money issuance system we have needs "growth" at any cost to maintain it...it really is the Ponzi scheme to end all Ponzi schemes.........and it is the natural world....in all its diversity that seems to take the brunt of this new God called growth......

......I love the natural world ......

...anyway on a lighter note.......yes.....the plants that adult species feed on I have pretty much sorted I think ( I am going to do a plant list on the other thread at the end of the season).....

.......the next challenge...as you mention with the Ringlets is to concentrate on the larval food plants so colonies can establish and breed.....

........there are some grasses at the margins which are kept long....plus nettles.....which are pretty good I think.....and Birds Foot Trefoil which I have about 4 clumps of ...this is a larval plant for a few species I think.......

.....this is where I will concentrate on improving now the nectar plants are pretty much sorted.

Federal Reserve and mainstream commentators in the west trying to pin everything on China...currency wars gathering pace as fiat currencies become ever more unsustainable/worthless......

.... illusion of recovery being seen for what it is.......a managed recession bordering on depression since 2009 by issuing more money and more debt (at near to zero interest rates)....perpetuating and increasing the debt that causes the problems....

...a forced global currency reset getting closer and closer....

...roll up up...roll up....get ya gold and silver....get ya gold and silver!!!
