I do like 85/40. Very underused in my opinion.

95/40 used once in the 70s. Will never be bettered although 20/21 did run it close.

Backed a horse of W.A. Stephensons many years ago called Avondhu Iron.

The S.P. was 10/11 joint favourite.

Back in the day when I was a bookie if you cannot win then you get your stake back that's assuming one of the 10/11 shots won.

I assumed half stakes on at the price and half stakes back, which it would normally be. Didn't know about that rule.

100/6 was my all time favourite. Sleeping Partner, '69 Oaks, my first proper win.

Or was it 100/7, or 100/8?
Report spellingandgrammarchecker July 19, 2015 4:20 PM BST
It was 100/6

My first Classic winner.
Report kenny mann July 19, 2015 4:32 PM BST

Report akabula July 19, 2015 4:58 PM BST
My first big winner was Highland Wedding in 69 in the nat.
I had the same as you Kenny, 2 bob ew. I couldn't remember the price but thought it was about 14s.
looked it up there to see it was returned at 100/9.

When you place a bet on an unnamed fav you are deemed to be capable of winning since the sp is not known. Joints/cos are split.
Report li July 22, 2015 7:02 PM BST
I'm fond of my horse's price shortening from 2/1 to 15/8 because I think the bookies know it's going to win and want to save themselves a few bob.
Report BonnieDday July 23, 2015 9:27 PM BST
My £40 is in the 95/40 camp. Aesthetically pleasing price.

I'm rather surprised that 22/1 hasn't had an honourable mention.
