At the time, the Egyptians were given a hand by a passing Vogon constructor fleet in exchange for 72 virgins and 3 goats.
Originally there used to be a statue of the fleet captain Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz but this was so ugly that the Pharoah ordered it to be given the head of a man and the body of a lion so that it would offend no-one. Naturally, this was after the constructor fleet had left for good. |

The pyramids don't actually exist in any physical sense. They are the result of a hologram projected from the edge of the universe. The virgins and the goats were taken under false pretenses but since the pyramids appear natural enough to humans, there's no harm done and they are expected to last for ever.
