Oh yes, looking forward to this and as long as the weather doesn't do it's usual, a fine series is expected. Wombat shufflers to win 2-1 for me, but i soooo want to be wrong...

Thoughts?

What did you think of that blonde Kenny? Grin
Report rob_dylan July 31, 2015 3:44 PM BST
ffs Kenny like we needed to be told what the tune was.

The convicts didn't stand up so it was "Sit down if you're two one down".  Just sounds like an absolutely crazy atmosphere.  This time next week I'll be there at Trent Bridge, just can't wait if it is anything like this.  What a great pantomime villain Mitchell is, proper Kudos to him.

What a cracking Test match that was.
Brilliant to see Finn get applauded off the field at the end of the second Aussie innings - and for him to get MotM.

The crowd have been exceptionally good at Edgbaston creating a brilliant atmosphere.

There was an Aussie woman on one of Radio 5's Ashes programmes this week who suggested Edgbaston should always be the home of the first Test match in a Series as it creates such a great 'feel good' factor for England.
She definitely has a point.
Report Ibrahima Sonko July 31, 2015 8:36 PM BST
I was listening to that at lunchtime, they said it once was first test match. Even thou it would make sense to make it the first test but being the 3rd helps whatever test score is going into it is.
Report Tommy Toes July 31, 2015 8:39 PM BST
That's a good point too, Ibrahima.

One thing's for sure; it should always be one of the grounds every time we play a Series over here.
I think I heard them say this is the first time for 6 years it's been on the calendar?

England would be best to let them stay out in the middle for a few hours now.

I've been watching the highlights on Ch5 whilst listening to an Ashes special on Radio5.
Just brilliant dual-mediaing!
Now watching Ch5+1 to watch this glorious day in Ashes history once again.

They were talking to Chris Broad on R5 and he said Stuart was a 2lb 2 oz, 8 week premature baby when he was born.

That must give any new parent who is going through the trials and tribulations of having a very small baby who is very premature great succour.

Very well done Stuart Broad.

It's wonderful stuff, Alun.

This is the type of thing that gets kids interested in the game at an early age - not the dour, depressing stuff Boycott and co were shovelling up in my early years which put me off the game for all of my childhood well into my adulthood.

Just such a shame it's not on terrestrial tv.

On Radio5 at the start of their Ashes special tonight they said the cricket pages on the BBC this afternoon were the most 'hit' EVER on all BBC pages ever written.

There's still a massive love for the game - which is only viewed live now by a few.

Pity the young kids from households who can't afford the Murdoch subscriptions who may well have been the new British sporting heroes to come after picking up on their love of the game (plus every other sport) at a tender age, who will probably never even take up any sport now that its been almost wiped off the curriculum of ordinary schools (with no playing fields) and terrestrial tv.

Hope Rob is having a great time over at Trent Bridge today - which I'm sure he is and hopefully in a well-oiled fashion by now!

I had to go out just before the end of the excellent lunchtime interview with Mike Brearley on TMS.

Aggers asked him a few pertinent questions about the way he handled certain players in particular - and Brearley was very forthcoming in his appraisal.
As you can imagine, Aggers particularly wanted to know about his dealings with Boycott - and once again, Mike was candid in a supremely measured and humorous way about his recollections.

What I'd like to know if anyone has been listening to TMS since lunch is: Has Aggers mentioned to Boycott  Brearley's recollections, and if he has, what has Boycott said?
Report anubis7 August 7, 2015 6:32 PM BST
