Just watched the top ten womens world cup goals so far.

I've been watching a bit of it and I find it quite good. The individual skill levels aren't very high and many seem slow to defend safely...BUT there is absolutely nothing wrong with their approach to the game. The tackles can be quite firm, but fair (as it should be!) and there I a total lack of the theatrical rolling in pretend agony that blights the mens game.
I have only seen one 'dive' and the rest just seems to be played as a physical sport should be. I shall definitely watch more.

I'm confused re the Womens World Cup.

Are we supposed to approach it as we would do any other game of football - by which I don't mean comparing it with the men's  game, but in it's own right, on its own terms? Because if we are then why the uncritical hagiography from the media, accelerated by the fact that England are doing well?

There will only be equality when fair criticism is allowed - our goalkeeper is appalling, more intent on 'Hollywooding' it for the cameras - not this patronising 'they're the best footballers in the world' strapline that has become the mantra of the commentators to date.
