Why would they want to do that?

As I understand it, he had custody, and she never had permission to take him. 

Kidnapping charge.

She lied about where she was.

Charge of wasting police time.

I think somebody has already been nicked for lying about her whereabouts.

If he/she has been nicked for it, the mother must be guilty of something.

So if the police don't press charges, the other one's fine has to be  quashed, or if he/she is banged up, released from prison.

And finally, she seems a bit of a nutter, to me.

At least she didn't take him to a war torn hell hole.

I can't see how the husband could 'withdraw' a kidnapping charge. That is a criminal offence and could surely, only be withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Services.

Phone the BBC and tell them.

I think you are missing how the 'process' works, what would happen if wealthy people couldnt stop prosecutions in the future.

I suppose the police could do it, but its not really their job to decide who walks free and who doesn't. They just collect evidence.
I suppose they will have some leeway, but it becomes very dodgy when they start self-checking.
