might want to check that info on rbs prices Foyleswar ...currently around £3.50 and that was after they clumped them 1 for 10 ,gov bought in at 47p and they will be  getting out well under that ,despite promising not to ,now saying profit on other sell offs will cover it .Its all ballarks anyway ,noone is talking about the costs involved or what interest 45B would have made ect .
Bottom line is they had to do it imo ,was against it but these banks invent/print money and pay 50B a year in taxes so they are needed.
Not so sure there would be the public hunger for bank shares, there will be a public sale , there is plenty to go around imo .

We have never had it so bad. Of course all the better off love this system. They get everything
the poor get very little.Still if that is what people want?

"Austerity is literally stealing from the poor to give to the tax avoiding rich."

Tax gap is 35 billion.  Let's make an absurd assumption that all of that is the rich in tax avoidance schemes (biggest item is VAT in shadow economy but let's pretend it's the nasty rich).

Even if the rich cough up the £35 billion, the government still runs a deficit.

So they aren't "literally" stealing from the poor to give to the "tax avoiding rich".

Don't we all ebul ? Howver, some os us have differnet opinions about the route we should take to get there and hatred of one sector is just as bad on both sides of the divide. Many of us believe holding hands out for undeserved benefits is just as bad because it robs from those that do deserve benefits most. We all agree that rich tax avoiders should be targetted but I bet most on that austerity march buy from ebay, amazon and apple and all the other IT companies that avoid tax by locating in low tax bases.
Report ebulGery June 22, 2015 9:35 AM BST
I see your point treetop

But how do you know benefit is underserved? It is only the Tory government that says this, to enable them to cut benefits.
The money they save is then given back in tax cuts to the better off, no attempt has been made to clear our deficit.

It is hard for those at the bottom, those who say what austerity? are not at the bottom are they

I do not see this country or the world ever getting any fairer as long as we pursue these extreme monetarist economics.
We will not remove poverty.
Since I do not believe religious fanaticism is the answer either, what is left?

I see communism/socialism as our only hope.
Report ebulGery June 22, 2015 9:37 AM BST

then simply up the point of consumption tax.

if they want to have a base here they become transparent or pay hefty fines.
we ahd these problems pre EU with he yanks....then being a larger union we had more clout.

dont bow down to big companies in fear of losing business....our tax laws cant be that bad as companies like to trade here and have done for years.

I am not against those who start a business and who are succesfull, far from  good luck to them ,its the establishment /powers that be who tell you what you cant do while doing what they are telling you not to do but on a much greater scale  khoonts who I oppose ,people who feel  that they are comfortable now with a nice well paid job and everything is rosey may well be of a different mind in a year or 2s  time or sooner ,if you are an ordinary working man or own a small business  and not in the elite this mob will be after making it uncomfortable for you ,as said earlier watch fuel  prices go up petrol/diesel , it will just go up around a penny a week or 2 gradually so most motorists don't notice " they wont make the mistake of pushing it up by 5-10p in one hit"   " then we have those who are working but on lowish wages and claiming housing benefit  ,be very  surprised if they don't cut that next.
don't make the mistake that the government want to help the working class, they despise us .

I totally agree FOYLESWAR

That has been the plan since 1980, crush the working class, we only exist to be exploited and used by the rich
To this end personal selfishness and greed are encourages and people are encouraged to despise anyone less fortunate than themselves
It is clever stuff, but does not fool me.

Our society grows worse and more vicious, cheap imports hold it up, I can see that.

I hold by my view, although I know it is not fashionable at the moment, we will have to return to it one day.

But I was always a hard and conscience worker, in fact I loved my work.

People need to get off the jacksies and pay their own way!

No more free benefits. They should do community service and/or training courses and they should be mandatory before any benefits can be claimed.
I'd scrap child benefits too. Give them free meals at school if their parents do the above.

stow I would like to think that a large % of the unemployed would be happy to do some form of meaningfull unpaid work for their benefits obviously a percentage wont be happy at getting off their rses  ,but the problem is what work could they do that wont put already  employed people on the dole ,I think it was suggested that they could be made to pick up litter or clean graffiti from walls etc, but the double edged sword is that having people do these jobs for free will surely lead to those that are paid to do these jobs losing them
