It's nice to have a little bit tucked away for a rainy day.

didnt they hear the results? Tory Majority. They are protesting at the wrong place...
They should be protesting right outside Myleen Klass's mansion and other tory voting homes.

as has been asked already .,,.What austerity is it that people keep complaining about ?
there is none ,it never happened ,reducing council budgets has been needed ,on befalf of the taxpayers .
When ever you see people protesting about council services being cut , its mostly council employees

We've never had it so good. Maybe if some people cut back on the booze and cigarettes and made do without a mobile life might be better. I'm all for helping the really poor off but too many scroungers are fouling up the system.

true hound dog ,another example which is on the politics forum now about the government proposals to sell rbs shares at the low rate of £5, when the true value is £7.! sounds like a good opportunity to make some money ! don't get excited though because these shares will not be available to small investors , the bankers and the rich will make another killing

might want to check that info on rbs prices Foyleswar ...currently around £3.50 and that was after they clumped them 1 for 10 ,gov bought in at 47p and they will be getting out well under that ,despite promising not to ,now saying profit on other sell offs will cover it .Its all ballarks anyway ,noone is talking about the costs involved or what interest 45B would have made ect . Bottom line is they had to do it imo ,was against it but these banks invent/print money and pay 50B a year in taxes so they are needed. Not so sure there would be the public hunger for bank shares, there will be a public sale , there is plenty to go around imo .

Russel Brand took plenty milage out of the Bank bailouts but never once did he mention the money being recouped or go into the effect on economy ect if they had not taken the action they did ,not to mention the job losses and costs involved there .

We have never had it so bad. Of course all the better off love this system. They get everything the poor get very little.Still if that is what people want?
I will always oppose it. I detest the rich, their hypocrisy. The only decent people you find in our society are at the bottom.
Lot of Tories on these forums. Must de better at gambling than I am LOL!

"Austerity is literally stealing from the poor to give to the tax avoiding rich."
Tax gap is 35 billion. Let's make an absurd assumption that all of that is the rich in tax avoidance schemes (biggest item is VAT in shadow economy but let's pretend it's the nasty rich).
Even if the rich cough up the £35 billion, the government still runs a deficit.
So they aren't "literally" stealing from the poor to give to the "tax avoiding rich".

You really detest all successful people? I'm afraid that says more about you than them.

Very sad that in this day and age Wolfy Smith hasn't grown any wiser. How spiteful must you be to make a blanket statement about all members of a section of society? Imagine if it were black people or the poor he was talking about?

But I still believe communism is the only hope for this world, well communism/socialism
Anything that creates a fairer world....and is strong enough to deal with the problems of our world, overpopulation, lack of food or energy resources, possible climate change, a lot to deal with
I suppose I am a bit of a Wolfy Smith, but it is not spite, I would to see more economic equality that is all

Well we have been running a deficit for the past five years anyway, despite the massive crackdown on benefits

They are not that far apart, I doubt we can get total equality I see communism as the ideal but we must accept human nature so I now believe in controlled capitalist economies such as China

they are supposed to have developed a system of counting a crowd based on tweets and other social media, the bbc told us, but didnt use the method to calculate this gathering that they seemed to be promoting. i wonder why.

various agencies count and so do the police ,if pressed they will give it but as mentioned they will be reluctant as it did not look that many ,they have a figure based on a head count ,people with clickers .As do press and other agencies ,prob agree a figure between them that suits all agendas
easy to count people on a march ,not so easy a large swilling gathering constantly on the move

Don't we all ebul ? Howver, some os us have differnet opinions about the route we should take to get there and hatred of one sector is just as bad on both sides of the divide. Many of us believe holding hands out for undeserved benefits is just as bad because it robs from those that do deserve benefits most. We all agree that rich tax avoiders should be targetted but I bet most on that austerity march buy from ebay, amazon and apple and all the other IT companies that avoid tax by locating in low tax bases.

But how do you know benefit is underserved? It is only the Tory government that says this, to enable them to cut benefits. The money they save is then given back in tax cuts to the better off, no attempt has been made to clear our deficit.
It is hard for those at the bottom, those who say what austerity? are not at the bottom are they
I do not see this country or the world ever getting any fairer as long as we pursue these extreme monetarist economics. We will not remove poverty. Since I do not believe religious fanaticism is the answer either, what is left?
I see communism/socialism as our only hope.

amazon and apple and all the other IT companies that avoid tax by locating in low tax bases. then simply up the point of consumption tax.
if they want to have a base here they become transparent or pay hefty fines. we ahd these problems pre EU with he yanks....then being a larger union we had more clout.
dont bow down to big companies in fear of losing business....our tax laws cant be that bad as companies like to trade here and have done for years. these big companies are simply trying it on.
close any loopholes.

I have been at the bottom ebul - and it wasn't communism or its ideals that got me off it!!! Just hard work and not sitting on my earse whining. Many of these protestors etc are on good local government jobs that they want to protect and are not from the sink estates.

I am not against those who start a business and who are succesfull, far from good luck to them ,its the establishment /powers that be who tell you what you cant do while doing what they are telling you not to do but on a much greater scale khoonts who I oppose ,people who feel that they are comfortable now with a nice well paid job and everything is rosey may well be of a different mind in a year or 2s time or sooner ,if you are an ordinary working man or own a small business and not in the elite this mob will be after making it uncomfortable for you ,as said earlier watch fuel prices go up petrol/diesel , it will just go up around a penny a week or 2 gradually so most motorists don't notice " they wont make the mistake of pushing it up by 5-10p in one hit" " then we have those who are working but on lowish wages and claiming housing benefit ,be very surprised if they don't cut that next. don't make the mistake that the government want to help the working class, they despise us . akbula"foyles just because you heard on a forum that shares wont be made to the smaller investor dosnt make it true " true but lets just say I am not over confident bout getting any are you ?

don't make the mistake that the government want to help the working class, they despise us . I totally agree FOYLESWAR
That has been the plan since 1980, crush the working class, we only exist to be exploited and used by the rich To this end personal selfishness and greed are encourages and people are encouraged to despise anyone less fortunate than themselves It is clever stuff, but does not fool me.
Our society grows worse and more vicious, cheap imports hold it up, I can see that.
I hold by my view, although I know it is not fashionable at the moment, we will have to return to it one day.

But I was always a hard and conscience worker, in fact I loved my work. I would go back to work today if anybody would employ me, I am now a pensioner
I was struck low by misfortunes in my life, I lost my career, property and money. I do not regard it as my own fault, it happens. Although I know the world will now regard me as a failure, and it hurts.
But I have always held socialist beliefs, I believe in a fairer society and always will.

Surely the plan is not to crush the working class, but to turn the lazy scroungers into the working class. People need to get off the jacksies and pay their own way!
No more free benefits. They should do community service and/or training courses and they should be mandatory before any benefits can be claimed. I'd scrap child benefits too. Give them free meals at school if their parents do the above.

Training courses cost money Stow, but i do like the idea but it would cost plenty but would perhaps pay for itself in the long run but unfortunately governments only think short term.

stow I would like to think that a large % of the unemployed would be happy to do some form of meaningfull unpaid work for their benefits obviously a percentage wont be happy at getting off their rses ,but the problem is what work could they do that wont put already employed people on the dole ,I think it was suggested that they could be made to pick up litter or clean graffiti from walls etc, but the double edged sword is that having people do these jobs for free will surely lead to those that are paid to do these jobs losing them
