local police have just been informed of the concerns of brendan on the betfair forum, have suspended any meaningful  investigation and will instead be composing sad poems and lighting candles. all conclusions and statements will be handled by senior obama adviser al sharpton.

It's sickening. The veneer of civilisation is just that, a veneer.

An appalling act surely.
I find the term 'hate crime' intriguing.  While there might be some small scale criminal acts where hate is not a necessary factor e.g. shoplifting from a large store, pretty much all violent crime is motivated by hate of a sort . I wonder what is the criterion for following the PC brigade in designating an act as a hate crime. Does it only apply where there is an ostensible race element present?
Of course much palpable hatred does not lead to any crime at all....unless we're talking about 'thought crime'.Plain

Charleston Police Chief : "We consider this act as not acceptable in any way"

Very strange he has to say that......you would have thought that was obvious.

BBC headline

"Nine people are killed in a shooting described as a 'hate crime' at an African-American church in Charleston, with A WHITE SUSPECT STILL AT LARGE."

I can't ever remember them saying ''with a black suspect still at large''.

At least we have the proper definiton of 'hate', he murdered 9 people.

Not called them names on an internet forum, put pigs heads on their  doorsteps, or called them 'yids'.

Seems to be these type's of mass shootings ever four five months. With guns so readily available and in some states the checks to get them are very lax. These shootings will continue until there is a change in the gun laws. That's not going to happen as they fund a lot of the politic system.

Probably explains his motivation Mr E so the description is relevant in this case.

Mr. Roof’s Facebook profile picture shows him wearing a jacket decorated with the flags of two former white supremacist regimes, in apartheid-era South Africa and in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.

The gunman walked into the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church after 8 p.m., and the first call to police came shortly after 9 p.m. Among the dead was the Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney, pastor of the church, who was also a state senator.

Sylvia Johnson, a cousin of Mr. Pinckney, told NBC News that she had spoken with a survivor of the shooting who told her the gunman reloaded five times. The survivor, she said, told her that the gunman had entered the church and asked for the pastor. Then he sat next to Mr. Pinckney during the Bible study before opening fire.

“I have to do it,” the gunman was quoted as saying. “You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.”

obviously a sliding scale from casual racism, calling names, thinking man who shoots nine blacks is a hero, to shooting nine blacks in a church themselves.
