The reason the fans of athletics needed this result so much was mainly down to the fact the public funded sport they like is actually mired in cheating, with 'amateur' athletes courting finance from the private sector to such an extent they will do anything to win.
It speaks volumes that nobody is highlighting the prospect of 'bad made good' of a potential win by Gatlin, but instead have decided 'once a cheat always a cheat', and are therefore putting all hopes on bolt never failing under scrutiny himself. |
