The biggest event in the female football calendar is only 17 days away and still Betfair have no markets, exchange or sportsbook.  Betfair steadfastly refuse to acknowledge that the beautiful game can be played by the beautiful sex.  Shame on you Betfair.  I'm so angry I'm off to have a lie down and to think about Louisa Necib and Alex Morgan demonstrating their skills setLove

The biggest event in the female football calendar is around 756 days away ( Russia - 14th June 2018 ). If you're good enough you can play in it. If you're not good enough regardless of sex then too bad, you'll have to watch instead.

Hope that helps.

Ah, this event in 17 days - is that the one where half the world is forbidden from playing - feck 'em
Report bongo May 20, 2015 9:04 AM BST
Oops, June 2018 is about 1100 days away.

Thank heaven for that bastian of sporting equality that is the BBC.  This is what they are up against...

The Italian women's cup final has been cancelled amid accusations a senior official referred to female footballers as "a bunch of lesbians".

Brescia were due to play Tavagnacco this Saturday, however the association representing female players and coaches in Italy have taken the move to scrap the game.

It comes amid an investigation by the Italian Football Association into alleged comments by Felice Belloli, the president of the county’s amateur football association. According to the minutes of a meeting to discuss funding for the women's game, he reportedly said: "That's enough, we can't always talk about giving money to this bunch of lesbians."
Report bongo May 20, 2015 10:40 AM BST
But what is this? Did I see the word amateur in that last line? The lesbians shouldn't be getting any funding at all.

Well I would report you for your sexist comments, but it seems Betfair agree with you so there's no point. Cry

-outright market just gone up
I asked them to put up 1st round match markets too, but these aren't up
-I think betfair aren't sexist, it's just their customer service is poor, like a relationship they need a lot of nagging to get something done right

That's very kind of you bongo.  The thread was in jest although I do think Betfair should have had an outright market up, for PC and commercial.  If you want to appeal to female punters then you should at least recognise the Women's World Cup.  It's the national game and a growing sport and the standard is increasing rapidly.  I'll be watching it and betting on it btw.

The best 3 teams in the World are USA, Germany and rapidly improving France.  They are all in the same half of the draw should they win their groups, which they should and opens up the tournament a bit, although I would expect whoever of that trio reaches the final to go on and win it.  France and Germany should play each other in the quarters which is tough on both of them.  Germany are missing their star player and current World Player of The Year Nadine Kessler which is even tougher on them.  Thailand are going to get hammered like Tahiti in the Confed Cup, but unfortunately the bookies are alive to this one.

England appear to be improving, but they have been avoiding the big guns so it's difficult to tell.  I suspect they are some way behind France, who are technically the best team in Women's football, so it will be a big test in their opening game.  It may well be a blessing as they should beat both Mexico and Colombia, and 2nd place in the group looks like placing them in potentially the weakest quarter without any of the top 5 in the betting, in which case a semi final is a realistic possibility.

They probably reflect the attitude of most bettors on here.

First round of matches for the Women's World Cup are now up.

1st game: CANADA versus CHINA 11pm our time on 6th June. Neither country is noted for women with big peaches and melons, or for any woman footballer who could got into the Vanarama.

Total Matched to date : 0

There's been a few matches now and so far I've tried and failed to crack one off. The nearest I came to it was a half-time interval when a rather tidy Sarah Pascoe look-a-like was giving her analysis to television punters at home, but then the second half started and after three slow tortured incomplete passes my girth was at 6 o'clock again.

I'm a woman, former PL team season ticket holder and I have zero interest in the Women's World Cup.

192K traded on the outright market (excluding eliminated nations) and plenty on the individual matches.  Compare that to UEFA U21 tournament, with England in it and hijacked by BT Sport with turnover of only £37k

Despite outright turnover only 19% of the total of the WWC, Betfair have included: "nominate the finalists" "top goalscorer" "reach the final" "England stage of elimination" and "Group to qualify" markets. none of which feature in the Women's WC list of markets

Conclusion:  Betfair are sexist LaughShockedMischief

Allez Les Bleues.  (and the Lionesses)

Incidentally the draw was fixed (FIFA are open about that) to give the easiest possible routes for Canada and USA to prolong their interest in the competition and maintain ticket sales.  Makes it a helluva lot easier to win too when you only have to beat one of France and Germany.

As Mark Sampson said in his post match interview, the turnover is the perfect response to the "doubters and haters"

I don't think anyone on here is sexist when it comes to betting, plenty of bets on women's wc

Until I see women players in the Premiership I shall continue with my opinion women make rubbish footballers

Still I would never overlook a good betting opportunity
Report CLYDEBANK29 June 24, 2015 3:56 PM BST
That logic implies women are rubbish at all sport, because they can't compete with men at an elite level.  If you can't get past that then you may aswell dismiss all women's sport rather than appreciate they are the best of their gender.

Perhaps that's why Betfair were dismissing the Women's World Cup?  in that they thought like you they are just rubbish.  Viewing figures pretty strong considering its on BBC2 AND 3 although I imagine it's still mostly men watching.

Plenty of women would make a better footballer than me.

Yes that is my logic, and I do dismiss all women's sport, when they claim EQUALITY with men, because that is REALITY.
If they want to play sport and people want to watch I have no objection.

But I never consider it equal until women can compete equally against men, some equestrian events they do.
Report ebulGery June 24, 2015 8:57 PM BST
Sport was never designed for women, it was designed for men to release men's aggression and competitive instinct
in a safe way.
Of course it is now entertainment as well

During my lifetime I have found most women have no interest in sport either participating or watching, although some do
But nothing like men do. It is a man thing, not a woman thing, in general
Report CLYDEBANK29 June 24, 2015 9:52 PM BST
Dunno what equestrian sport has to do with it at all.  Put a lady in a Ferrari and she will accelerate away from a bloke in a Nissan, just like a lady on a good horse will accelerate away from a bloke on a bad one.
