sounds horrible. Only person I've ever known who's suffered with it was my old rugby captain. He was a right hard bstrd but that used to have him in tears. He'd often end up going to A&E for a cortisone injection.

Never known pain like it. My doctor says it's the male equivalent of childbirth. If you keep getting it there is a drug which needs to be taken every day for the rest of your life but it does prevent it. Where have you got it? Feet, elbow or knee?

Suffered with it for the last few years. Since Jan I've been on Allopurinol 300mg once a day, no side effects and not so much as a sniff of the ol' Twist. An easy solution to a truly horrible problem.

I've had quite a few attacks. Worst was in my wrist (actually went to casualty thinking I must have broken a bone somehow)
Haven't had any for a while though touch wood. Cut out / reduced a few things from my diet (pate, anchovies, mushrooms). Cherry juice and the occasional aspirin seems to help.

I'm on daily medication for it. An absolute killer in the toe.
What I would do, treble is soak your foot in hot water for 150 seconds and then cold water for 30 seconds. Do this 3-4 times, it helps. You will need to have a kettle boiled to top up the hot water as it soon cools after transferring your foot from cold to hot.

Worth looking up which foods can trigger it. I'd not had it until I managed to eat kippers mackerel and mussells on the same day. Turned out they are all to be reduced/avoided if you suufer wuth gout.
