Good afternoon, gentlemen.
I'm endeavouring to compile a 100 questions quiz for a local charity. The idea is that players pay a small entry fee and receive the quiz to mull over for a month or so, submitting their answers by a certain date before the overall winner can be determined. Obviously, I can throw in a few picture-based brainteasers to thwart the cheaters, but do the good folk of Chit Chat have any other clever suggestions?

One of the rounds could be IQ type questions such as Pattern Recognition e.g. http://www.intelligencetest.com/questions/precognition.htm
You'd probably need to buy a book with them in though. |

 The thing is, though, using Google won't be prohibited as such (it would be pointless to try) rather I just want to make it as hard as possible to look up the answers. |

Just give them a project e.g.
What has been the net effect of UK direct foreign aid on democratic institutions in recipient countries (+ve, neutral or -ve)? What measurable climate predictions in the IPCC first assessment report of 1990 have come true? or a really tough one How many Nobel Prizes in the 20th Century have been won by people who were later found out to have fabricated part of their their data or story? It'll keep them occupied for a while. |

One question could be to ask an ungoogleable question as someone said... That is a good idea. Sounds are good. Thing is there is google and then there is forums... Eg. This one. You can get hundreds or thousands or more brains on the job thanks to the internet. And of course they could all be using the internet too. You have a real task on your hands here mate.

Remember someone worked put how to put up a question which, when googled, sent you to the wrong answer. Think it was studyform. So if someone ever puts up that wrong answer then you know for sure they have googled and are disqualified. Make it a quiz where googling is not allowed.

Hi UTI. To set my trap would take a little planning, but wouldn't be beyond those with a modicum of internet knowledge I feel. Include a nonsense question such as "Which sportsman was known as The Babylonian Teapot?" Make it worth triple points to attract interest. Earlier in the day you will have primed your own website or blog with the keywords Athlete Arthur Jones The Babylonian Teapot so it appears near the top of any internet search engine. Granted this subterfuge is wicked and devious, but then again so is cheating your mates in a pub quiz.
