Our friend Bindu was adopted by a British family as a nipper and has in the last few years moved back to Nepal..we were well chuffed to see her on Facebook saying she is ok

I was in Nepal 15 months ago, shocking stuff, some of the places in the scenes in Kathmandu I recognise

Very sad scenes. I recall reading an article in the Guardian suggesting that China were attempting to tunnel under Everest to build a rail link with Nepal.

They don't mention seismic activity as a potential risk but one of the comments below the line did.

Man on the news asking the public for donations(!)  If we're going to have a foreign aid budget then surely this event is what it's intended for.

Saw a piece on the news about a couple in Benidorm. She is (was) 6 months pregnant, the baby came prematurely and now they're stuck in Spain not for as long as it takes for the baby to grow strong enough to travel home. Her mother is now on social media crowd funding sites trying to raise money for them pay their bills while they're over there - and its working!!!! Sod the starving people of Nepal, we'd rather give our money to a dopy chav who thought it was a good idea to go on holiday whilst 6 months pregnant!

Not sure they knew of the exact time this quake would hit ,seems there may be a patern due to the well known fault lines but its hard to predict exact times ,think they thought in the next decade or so ,its an ongoing thing and will continue forever and a day .
Building technology has came on ,and should help prevent future loss of lives but this beautiful mysterious   region will never be quake free ,like Nepal and its people and hope they can get all the help needed to reduce the immediate suffering and the rebuilding ,tragic event  ,they have some big neighbors in China and India ,so far China have offered 3.3M the same as EU,not sure what India have offered ,hopefully the aid effort pulls together.

Incredible.  Joanna Lumley on behalf of the DEC asking for public donations for Nepal.  If only this country had a £12,200,000,000 aid budget.

The UK sent £68m to India as they're poor.

Nice of them to spend £24m on a rocket into space though.

Death toll now over 5k and will surely be many more as more access is gained to remote areas.

At the airport in Kathmandu there are signs that say "it is not for you to change Nepal, but for Nepal to change you"  That is so very very true

I love Nepal and will plan to go back there on my next holiday, they will need the benefits of tourism into the future.
