The headteacher of Nonsuch High School for Girls has been sacked for "unprofessional and inappropriate conduct" as well as "serious breaches" in applying safeguarding procedures. Peter Gale's contract with the school was terminated by the Ewell Road, Cheam, school's governing body, it was announced on Wednesday, April 15. Tony Hyams-Parish, chairman of the governing body, made the announcement to parents, staff and pupils.
His letter read: "I am writing to inform you that the Governing Body has terminated Peter Gale's employment at Nonsuch High School for Girls due to serious breaches in applying safeguarding procedures and instances of unprofessional and inappropriate conduct. "However, the Governing Body and Staff take their safeguarding responsibilities towards students very seriously and, importantly, any breaches of safeguarding procedures, and have therefore acted promptly to address these matters."

One of the country’s leading state-funded schools is under mounting pressure to explain the departure of its headteacher. Nonsuch High School headteacher Karin Rowsell was on “indefinite special leave”, departing the school before the Easter holidays. Rumours circulated as parents remained in the dark over Mrs Rowsell’s absence as pupils returned to school this week after the break.

Five girls at a London school have been suspended for two days after a Facebook hate campaign in which they said a member of staff they called "twit face" should die.
The Year 11 pupils at Nonsuch High School for Girls in Cheam allegedly blamed the staff member for the school prom date clashing with their exams.
Headteacher Karin Rowsell said: "All five have now returned and apologised for their actions."
Other girls at the grammar school were given detentions.

Nonsuch was named after the Palace that once stood in the park in the sixteenth century. Henry VIII started building it in order to create the finest palace in the world – None Such that could be found anywhere. He built it on the village of Cuddington.
Building a school in the early 20th Century in a Park with royal connections caused controversy. Warren Farm stood on some of the land. In 1935 there was an outcry about Surrey County Council’s proposal to build a school and questions about the scheme were raised in Parliament. It was thought the construction of the school would destroy the view of the trees where the Palace once stood.
Eventually it was given the go-ahead and on 30 December 1936 the first turf was cut at an official ceremony. Nonsuch was to be called ‘Nonsuch County School for Girls’. When full it was going to provide a school for 490 girls. There are now 1220.
