Anybody here knowledgeable on this subject?

I've noticed two or three extremely popular pool trickshot videos on the site, presumably triggering some sort of revenue for their creators.  Well, without wishing to blow my own trumpet too much, this is my particular forté and I'd like a piece of the action.  I have the table, the venue, the cameras and the requisite skill to play the shots.  What I don't have, however, is any idea how to create a Youtube channel or the income one might hope to generate.

Any ideas?

I think it's straightforward to set up - just register and follow the instructions.

I could be wrong but I think you receive £1 per 1,000 views.

Many thanks, IAWN.  If you are correct, sir, at £1000 for every million views the project is beginning to sound a tad less tempting.

The Charlie bit my finger dude has supposedly made half a million.  That would mean 500,000,000 views!  Could that be correct?

I guess the trick is to build up a "fan base" (people subscribe to channels), and keep making videos.

Once they're on they're on and if you have 50 videos getting 5,000 views per week, it's a decent supplement to most people's income.

When a person subscribes to a particular user's channel, do they have to pay for that subscription or is it just a case of digitally expressing an interest so to speak?

The latter. I guess it's similar to "liking" something on FB.

Subscribers get notified when you add a new video.

Many thanks for your advice, IAWN, much appreciated.

Probably the aggregate number of views for all his videos.  You can see the total number of views on the person's "about" page.

You're welcome but I'm no authority on YT.

If you use your knob as the cue, that would pull in a few million punters.

You flatter me, MMM, a cue is required to be at least thirty-six inches in length.
Report Pokermonster April 10, 2015 6:04 PM BST
That stipulation came about, by the way, on Monday 14th of November 1938, at precisely a quarter to four in the afternoon.  Alec Brown dared to employ an ebony cue of just five inches, which was deemed a foul by the esteemed referee.

The prohibition against using one's knob as a cue predates that by quite some time.

Sometimes videos have Google ads attached to them (as opposed to conventional ones which precede the video).

I'm not sure if the Google ads pay on a "per click" basis as they do on other websites.

I used to host Google ads on my website. Most only pay a penny or two per click but some pay £1. Google don't pay until you have accumulated 100 USD.

Very few people click on the ads but I removed them primarily because it takes visitors away from your site and, imo, look unprofessional.

My local footy club filmed this that was shown Worldwide and has over 5M views. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzAZTdyOXcA

They made precisely nothing from it despite it being shown on BBC, ITV, Soccer AM and a laod of other channels.

If you upload to Youtube then they must own the copyright Confused

Money is not made directly from views, but it is indirectly, it's all about the ads, the more times an ad is clicked on during or at the end of the video the more money a user makes, income through ads are also made before the actual video starts with the ones that have 20 second slots that you cant skip - this is all assuming one doesn't have ad blocker on, which a lot do, how much money you make depends on how much the advertiser has paid to advertised on the vid, obviously the more subscribers/regular views a user has has the bigger the advertiser it will attract and the more money they pay, you definitely don't get money just based on views because if you did you'd have people programming software to refresh their video page 100 times a secondLaugh youtube users also make a living by advertising brands themselves in their videos or are invited to attend events and then talk about/review their product, that happens a lot.

If your pool vids are a hit, you could be sponsored by a cue brand or even by Hearne himself to namedrop upcoming tournies who knows.
