US police: Controversial recent killings

April 2015: Walter Lamer Scott, 50, is shot eight times in South Carolina as he runs away from Officer Michael Slager. Mr Scott dies at the scene. The shooting is captured on video and Mr Slager is charged with murder.

December 2014: Jerame Reid, 36, is shot dead during a routine traffic stop in New Jersey. An officer claims Mr Reid was reaching for a gun, but video footage seems to suggest he was attempting to step out of the car, hands raised.

November 2014: Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old boy, is shot dead in a playground by Cleveland police after a local resident reports he is pointing a gun at passers by. The gun turns out to be a toy. A grand jury will decide whether police will face charges.

August 2014: Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old, is shot dead by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri. The shooting leads to protests, first in Ferguson and later nationwide. A grand jury decides not to charge Mr Wilson.

July 2014: Eric Garner, an asthma sufferer, is stopped by police in New York and placed in a chokehold after refusing to be handcuffed. He dies despite repeatedly telling officers he cannot breathe. No police are charged.

March 2014: James Boyd, an unarmed homeless man camping in Alberquerque, is shot dead by two officers. Video of the incident leads prosecutors to say the officers acted with "deliberate intention" and they are charged.

OP has got it wrong. It's 'White Cop shoots black man'.

This is how every news channel is reporting this.

This may well be a racist crime but it could be just another appalling example of Americans killing each other. They do it every day.

When Jihadi John beheads white people, it's NEVER reported in the same way. When a Black Ferguson cop killed a Puerto Rican it was 'cop kills man'.

The duplicity is truly astonishing.
Report Wesdag April 8, 2015 7:53 PM BST
No surprise to find the usual apologists and black haters attempting to justify and provide equivalence for the police officer's actions.

As for the Black Ferguson cop shooting the Puerto Rican, I don't know the circumstances.

Perhaps it hasn't attracted the same attention because Blacks have not in the US, as far as I know, institutionalised racism against Puerto Ricans.

Guns should have cameras that take a picture every time the trigger is pulled, problem of made up stories would be solved. In this case: 8 pictures of a running mans back. The technology already exists, it just needs the will?

Someone asks you if you saw the football and you tear into them shouting "How can you think about football when someone was murdered in London yesterday?"

I've seen the video and it was completely inexcusable. I hope there won't be an equally inexcusable reaction from the black community, but I hold little hope because, let's face it, every demographic group has its cretins and they love a flimsy excuse to do something cretinous.

Exactly, the problem for the liberal media is the vast majority of killers are black so this receives a fraction of the coverage from this ONE case (even though South Africa and the US has similar historical ties to the UK).
But then the average liberal considers the media value of a black township dweller to be approximately 1/10,000th the value of a white, so the same standards aren't applied. This is why the fact that the supervising officer in the Garner case was a black woman, was either glossed over or completely committed.

The American  cop psyche, why shoot the suspect in the leg when I can kill him with as many shots as I can pump into him as I can, why because the most likely scenario  99% of the time will be the cop will get away with it as he will be given the benefit of the doubt, there must be dozens of cases like this every year in the states which never see the light of day, just open & shut cases which may be queried but ultimately the cop will get off as this one  would have  without the film evidence.

Obviously, I never said anything like this, but you find reality difficult. It's a method which would only fool an idiot, and possibly you have convinced yourself so i'll explain what you did to alter reality to fit your therapeutic narrative. Firstly you change the fact that I was referring to the media coverage of the event, not the death itself. Then you insert the word "merely" to doctor the point, but to invent a whole new fiction. And bingo, you've created for yourself a story with a fictional villain and more importantly you as the hero, or saviour. And this makes you feel a bit better.
Notice how this approach is similar to your use of the Scott killing.

I can hear the sub now. 'Let's bump this for the village fete story ...'

so let's look at what THIS story bumped, the thousands of murders in america including a seriously disproportionate rate within the black community. The horrific situation in Mexico and much of central and south america. The spiralling killings and genocide right across the middle east and africa with hundreds of thousands dead in horrific circumstances, but no in depth or personal coverage. Maybe brown people in sandy countries mean much less to you than an exploitation of a narrative that makes you feel good.

The racism,

Where exactly? Or do guilty uptight liberals like yourself hallucinate it in everything to make yourself feel better, maybe to ease the guilt? A little fantasy in your head where you point out everyone else as racist, and you've come to "save"the black man, just as long as you don't have to live in one of their neighbourhoods.

a splash splash of homophobia,

Seriously? How about you throw in Sexism, Rape Culture, Transgender-bathroom-denier. I guess you can't form an argument it still leaves you with throwing prefabricated chants around at random.
Then tell me, was the supervising officer in the Garner case racist, sexist, homophobic, islamophobic, or all of the above?

This story you seem to revel in was a personal tragedy, and as a member of the family said, was made worse by the lurid use of it by the media and political opportunists.

The thing is I actually agree that there is a left-wing press bias, but this is obviously a newsworthy story. Can you lot honestly not see why it's in the fúcking news?

It made the news because it was graphic video of someone being killed. Arguably the other reason was because it fitted a narrative.

The story itself is tragic but as I've said, there are thousands of first degree murders that go unreported, this was probably a second degree murder but even then the facts are relatively scarce from the same media that runs the video over and over. If it's an important story then run it but with proper investigation, rather than as a snuff movie.
