Most animal abusers are teenagers, and it's the school holidays. That's where I'd start my investigation.

This is obviously appalling, but I am struggling with the veracity of the background - are you sure you got this right, Kenny? -assume you just cut and pasted it? - Can it really be a 17 month old epileptic toddler who grooms her horse every day.  Just wondering.

Does that really matter, blackbarn? I think it's perfectly possible that she does this, with assistance.

this is shocking stuff, obviously far worse than humans being slaughtered in the name of islam iko

Of course it's not far worse, but maybe worth a mention?

No I guess not. I was merely musing as to whether.....

1. you had embellished the story for effect, or had simply quoted the article accurately, or...
2. the original article had been embellished for dramatic effect by the original publishers, or...
3. the original article was correct in every detail.

It's the kind of mindless story which is so horrible I would rather not read it in a paper.
Almost feel I don't need to be reminded such pointless barbarism is on our streets.

2) the daily mail will take every opportunity to sensationalise...  language is everything, and readers tend not to analyse it too closely in my experience

It's sickening Kenny. People who can do this to animals are psychopaths and can do the same to people. They need to be found and locked up.

Ah, I can go to sleep smiling. The pony is alive and well, or maybe died of a heart attack.

Thanks all. I feel much better now, glad I raised the subject.

The main problem, foinavon is apathy, as demonstrated on here, particularly by blackbarn, who seems to treat all reports of animal abuse as trivial.

A lot of country folk see animals as commodities and can't afford to get sentimental about them.
By:

When: 05 Apr 15 00:17
Yes, I suppose that's correct.

Brutal attacks like this though are evil and are aimed to cause the maximum gratuitous suffering. To me there is no difference in doing this and beating up a helpless pensioner. No excuses for these monsters.
By:

When: 05 Apr 15 00:23
This could be a good debate, if Kenny can remain objective!!  Here is a start, as a farmer and a country boy, I do regard some animals as commodities - ie meat - pure and simple. I do not condone animal cruelty nor do i treat any examples of abuse as trivial.

I'll put it on here for safe keeping.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: 'This sounds like an incredibly upsetting incident.
'We would urge anyone with any information to contact either the police or ourselves on 0300 123 8018.

Kenny, so where are you on the "animals as commodities" front.  You'll be agin it , I guess.
By:

I know that, blackbarn, you've told me before. Why then do you mention the 17 month old girl grooming the pony as that is irrelevant imo, or are you having a go at the Dily Mail?

I don't eat meat if that answers your question and I'm not at all happy with factory farming.

i'VE NO PROBLEM WITH ANIMALS AS COMMODITIES AS LONG AS THEY ARE TREATED WELL DURING THEIR LIFETIME, AND KILLED HUMANELY.

Agreed with Kenny. I don't eat meat but I never preach to people who do. You are responsible for walking to the sound of your own drum. I'd like animals to be treated humanely if people then subsequently wish to eat them but that is a world away from stoving what are loving and intelligent animals heads in with breeze blocks. I struggle to see how you can look such an animal in the eye and see that trust and love in their eyes and then commit such an atrocity. That connection between man and horse isn't far ff the link between man and dog. I'm not really sure there is any redemption for such an individual. Psychopathy isn't putting it too strongly in my view.

Which I think reads a bit lovey and drippy and new agey but in truth put me in a room with a person who can behave in this way and I'll happily see who walks out. Psychopath or not.

People who are cruel to animals rarely stop there. The FBI has found that a history of cruelty to animals is one of the traits that regularly appear in its computer records of serial rapists and murderers.
By:

When: 05 Apr 15 18:33
An even better stat is that most if not all  serial killers/murderers/rapists were abused in child hood ,either physical ,mental or sexual .

The abused turn into abusers ,the link between animal cruelty and these people is a symptom not a cause imo.

Smashing a pony's head in with a breeze block sounds a bit more than animal cruelty/abuse ,sounds  more like a  revenge or a hate crime imo against the owners rather than  an attack/killing of a defenseless animal ,does not sound like kids but nothing surprises these days.Cry

Whoever it was and for whatever the reason one things for sure they are an evil cant.
Was a case in the courts in Scotland this week of someone who had 130 pets, rabbits mice and rats.
Not sure how the RSPCA got involved but the pets were being kept in appalling conditions with no water or food.
Some were already dead whilst others were paralysed and suffering and not far from death.
The report ended by saying they expect him to receive a banning order from keeping pets.
And that's the problem in this country. Not even the courts take animal cruelty seriously.

I always remember the outcome of 2 cases on the same day either last year or the year before.
...... fined £50 for burning poppies and shouting kill all soldiers.
..... ... jailed for nailing a pigs head to the door of a mosque.
No prizes for filling in the dots.

There are some people born just pure evil on this earth. I accept the points made on here about those people  who are abused as children, and therefore might feel they are getting their own back by being cruel to an animal because they are weaker than them.  And the poor animals can't talk, that's the advantage people have over them.
By:

When: 05 Apr 15 20:18
Aka the case you mention sounds like an animal collector ,a hoarder type ,a kind of mental disorder but doubt they collected up the pets with the intention of  torturing or abusing imo ,unable to cope and allowed suffering to happen but hardly the initial intention ,the rspca are a bunch of nazi's .Mice, rabbits  and rats whilst a living creature and deserving of some sort of protection (not if they are wild ,trapped and  poisoned as pests) should not be given more rights than humans ,world is full of humans living in squalor and this lot are more interested in mice and rats and rabbits.

appaling conditions with no food or water ...they would be dead if that was the truth ,perhaps not a free supply of water on the day in question but these cases as mentioned always involve strange types ,who often struggle to look after themselves ...sad really .

If you listen to the rspca animal cruelty is endemic ,cruel evil people going out there way to enjoy harming animals ,its seldom the case the propaganda this organisation puts out is sickening .

Obviously any person who willfully harms a pet or does a despicable act like the one mentioned by the OP needs locking up ,goes without saying .
By:

When: 05 Apr 15 20:46
It was a lack of water and food that had led to the deaths with others not far behind.
Obviously some of the animals did receive nourishment although all pets were either as described or sincerely emaciated.
Hard to understand how anyone could put any animal through such suffering unless they have mental issues.
If not I'd jail this guy. Have you had a run in with the RSPCA cos I've dealt with them a few times in the past and found them okay.
