Isn't it a modern world we live in now, 24/7, 365 days a year and all that?

Not in blighty, f(_)ckno it isn't.  Cry

Happy F*cking Easter, by the way Wink

Last week I had a an invoice delivered to my London address from a company I never use. It was addressed to someone else. They got the first line of the address correct (being mine) but the post code, which is probably for the correct address, does not match mine. I wrote on the envelope "Not known at this address-the post code does not match." The brilliant Royal Mail delivered it to me again today. So I collared the postman who had just delivered  and explained the situation. He just looked at me with glazed eyes! At least he took the invoice with him.

that glazed look thought it was a prescription from the good Dr

The postman stopped me in the street (my road) a few weeks ago and said, "what is the name of this road?" Cry

delivered to my London address

Lucky it wasn't your country residence. Isn't it half a mile from the front door to the street?
Report Slicer April 2, 2015 5:04 PM BST
Don't be ridiculous Mr Nick- it's only 700 yards!

Platini how many other countries have you spent any time in and tried to do "stuff"?
Britain is fantastic for things like shop opening hours and getting things done.

Considering you've an italian user name, have you ever BEEN there?!
Report Platini April 2, 2015 5:17 PM BST
"fantastic for getting things done"

except on bank holidays (and there's loads of those bas.tards)
except when there's a stray leaf on the train line
except when there's a bit of snow on the road

etc, etc, etc

We might be privileged to live in a country where you can get stuff done, but by god do we pay a premium for it. Angry
Report Just Checking April 2, 2015 5:29 PM BST
This is about posting stuff, but any old excuse to talk about the "premium charge"!
Report desperatemunter April 2, 2015 5:32 PM BST
your a sensible poster on football but when it comes to real-life by golly you got some issues !   Let up on the control-freakery - if everything worked we'd be . . . Germany.     British incompetence is a delightful and charming characteristic of these Isles ; I'm only sorry we don't still have half-day closing (I was always getting caught out by that), tightly-limited drinking hours, and lsd money with 144 pennies to the pound. oh , and Guineas.

you're prob right, DM. Every year I get older I morph more into Victor Meldrew Laugh

this place does p1ss me off at times, tho. Jeez !

Report desperatemunter April 2, 2015 7:50 PM BST
yes, your correct of course, which makes my point - you had to be really sharp, on the ball to manage back then. Give something a moments thought and you'd come out with egg on your face - you had to be sure, to have given the matter some real consideration or you'd come a cropper.
Report boxingthefox April 2, 2015 7:52 PM BST

The Land of Smiles, mate. Cool

If you've never been, I recommend you go see it for yourself.
You'll never want to return to costa del sh1te, etc ever again.

I have a nephew there 24 yrs old, building a great life. I'm 67, maybe I have been wrong to dismiss it on age grounds?????
Report boxingthefox April 2, 2015 8:39 PM BST
I've been to every continent (bar the frozen one) Loved Singapore but for a younger man than me, Malaysia, not sure, Australia, fantastic, but slowing following our lead Sad downwards. South America very popular at the mo.

Your age group is well catered for in Thailand. Large ex-pat community, many retired. Cost of living is very low so your pension will stretch a long way.
And seniors are the most respected in society, the complete opposite of here.
Report boxingthefox April 2, 2015 8:54 PM BST
Will revisit it it mate, my nephew is back in July, so I will look at it afresh. he of course is looking at it through very young eyes so I will need to ask the right questions. Wink

ten years ago my wife was a nurse in a military hospital in leatherhead
they had many patients mainly with post traumatic stress disorder
all of the older patients always agreed to a man
"If we had known the country was going to turn out like this
we would never have fought for it in the war"

That tells you all you need to know about "GREAT" Britain Sad
