That's the whole idea of looking at historical cover-ups.
keeps them away from the 'live ones' until they're gone and can then be investigated.

The Met are distrusted by other police forces (well, Yorkshire at least) who consider them corrupt and arrogant.
The Met have certainly done their best to suppress London nightlife for the last 40 years (a late licence not easily granted).
Compared to the rest of what they getting up to in the Seventies, covering up child abuse may be low on the list of sins. But who is going to investigate?

It leaves the suspicion in people's minds that it goes to the top of the tree so needs to be cleared up quickly and openly.

Others might think this is deliberately muddying the waters to keep attention off the actual rapists (and murderers by some accounts, which may be unreliable). Switch the focus to the cover-up until the politicians have passed on.

.. blades, i think big fat cyril was kept out of the picture because of what he knew about these abusers, indeed tonight it was even implied

Nobody will face the music from Parliament or the police force.

i cant see how any police officers can be held to account if they were threatened with the official secrets act.

i do however think that if there are any sex offenders still alive ( in this case ) they may well be found out..eventually.
