Will this get higher?  Really think Mediterranean holiday homes are a steal right now.

And yet over the last year or two we have lost to the dollar.  Euro to Dollar must've been in free fall.

Especially when it's fallen against the dollar at the same time, so your input costs have risen.

1.4 is a bad joke. Without Germany, would be four euros to the pound minimum. The euro is unsustainable at this level, and will shortly be consigned to history before it kills half the countries in it stone dead.
Report Foinavon March 11, 2015 12:42 AM GMT
When the euro was introduced it was 1.5 to 1 GBP. Since the euro was set at 2DM the starting rate was equivalent to 3DM = 1 GBP, the exact rate we were shadowing in the "snake" during the Lamont chancellorship. This was too high as George Soros demonstrated when he helped the pound collapse at great cost to the treasury.
The low rate for the pound over the years has helped us enormously but I fear if the pound gets back to 1.5 euro, the economy will come under a lot of pressure again.

Just seems to be in free fall these days.  Looking forward to my week on the Algarve in April.  It was cheap at 1.25.

I was in Dublin last weekend. With the euro at 1.37 then it was the first time since the switch over from the punt that I actually bought anything such has been the bad value for money since.
At the football game I was at they had a special 2 pints and 2 burgers for 20 euros which not so long ago would have been close to 20 quid.

Booked a holiday to Greece and Macedonia this summer and I paid pre reserved the hotels with an online agent in sterling. Cancelled them today and booked directly through the hotels which charged me in euros and saved a few hundred pounds.

As a matter of interest what is the upper range which the euro could in reality go to. I mean 1.50 might be coming but what would be the max rate it can go to without it failing.

Seems to me it can't go too high without inflation.  Stuff would just become too cheap for foreigners and we'd all go there and buy everything up.  Which would force prices up.  Don't want to labour a point, but 40k for a 1 bed flat in a lovely spot like Lagos is a steal.

Nice wee 1 bedroom flat in Vilamoura for you Rob, might not appeal as you can get them for 40 or 50k. Cool
