No, we need to know what a different kettle of fish is, and it's not the same ... because it's, err, different.

There is nothing wrong with the expression 'think outside the box'. It is a very clear, and accurate, instruction. Sometimes the simple solution is much easier than you think. Look at the problem again, your imagined restrictions don't actually exist.

I'm very impressed by your early start this morning to nail this one on the head, right from the getgo.

I followed your link but it told me what I already know about kettles and fish.
The definition provided ends with "'A different kettle of fish' is much later in origin than 'a pretty kettle of fish' and is known only since the 1920s. It's quite pleasing that, as far as etymology goes, 'a different kettle of fish' is a different kettle of fish.


Perhaps I should give up on this one and kick it into the long grass, as I feel it may make me as mad as a box of frogs (perhaps I am).
