Looked a good decision from the ref. He could have got himself seriously hurt.
By:
Yes one more punch and he could have been seriously injured
By:
Very impressed with Frampton he possesses loads of power for the 8st 2 division.

Scott Quigg not a great fight promoter

By:
Anyone else think that the referee maybe should have stopped the fight one or two punches earlier?
By:
couldn't say I listened to it on 5Live didn't realise it was on tv

Avalos wasn't really defending himself for a good twenty seconds or so before the stoppage, barely able to raise his arms. In my opinion, I thought that the referee was a bit late.

the commentator on the radio had to take off his headset as the noise from the crowd was hurting his ears

The ref has a tough job I suppose. If he'd stopped it earlier (as I think he should have done personally) he'd probably be criticised. It just seemed to me, as a novice, that Avalos looked well out of it four or five punches before it was stopped.

By:
On the slow motion replay before that Avalos did fight back but on the last exchange he looked done. I suppose the ref has to consider giving the challenger a chance in a title fight but a world champion is more likely to do serious damage. Also the ref got blamed for stopping george groves too early so it is a fine line. Fo me it was spot on but I probably wouldn't have argued if it was earlier.

By:
Just before the ref stepped in it looked to me as if Avalos was going to collapse even if he wasn't hit again, his eyes went glassy and looked as if they were going to close.
By:
If the ref ever gets it wrong they can have a rematch. If gets it right he saves a guy from serious injury.
By:
Very true.
