Hitachi televisions - any good?

We bought this because our television was on its way out. I really wanted the smart tv function and as big a screen we could get for our tight budget. On the positive side I am more than happy with the picture quality but that is where the positives end for me. The most noticeable thing for me was the tinny sound. Sound quality has never been that high a priority for me so for me to notice it must be bad. It could just be that my previous television was a lot better than this one which made it more noticeable. We bought this television back in April and I do not notice the bad sound quality much any more.

The major disappointment for me is the Smart TV apps. The apps include Facebook, You Tube, BBC iplayer. There are 2 or 3 others and I personally feel that apart from iplayer the apps are pointless. There is no Netflix, Wuaki TV, ITV player, Lovefilm. There is no way to add apps either. I rang up to query this as I was so sure that there had been some mistake and there had to be a way to add apps to it. I was told that there was not and that any new apps will be added in future updates. It is also worth mentioning that you need to buy the right dongle for this television. We thought that we could use the dongle that we used on our previous television but it would not work.

We are so disappointed in this television that we are actually going to save up for a new one.

There was an article in the press about them Smart tvs last week. Seemingly, they use them to spy on consumers. They watch all your activity through the built in webcam and listen to all your conversations, then sell personal information on to other companies and you get bombarded with spam and junk mail. George Orwell was a clever cookie.

All of the companies make various models. Some of these models are better than others. Some have better pictures. Some have better sound. Some have more facilities. Some are bigger than others. Some are cheaper. Some are generally good. Some are definitely bad.
You need to work out just what you want from your television, then you can start to look for suitable models.
If you ask totally random questions you will never get the info that you seek.
Unfortunately, you might need to do a bit of reading, thinking and checking on the various sets available.

It depends upon what YOU feel are your personal priorities. Every component part is manufactured. somee are manufactured to tight tolerances whereas others are not. They quality of the materials used to make every component also varies in quality and price. Every inter-connect and added facility that you don't need has to be paid for. This means that, to maintain the same price level, savings must be made elsewhere. 'Elsewhere' translates as 'Quality'.

FFS, are we still in the 80s? 

I prefer Sony or LG TVs.
I'm wondering myself about the wisdom of a smart TV as I'm wondering if a good LCD TV with a separate smart box is the way to go. The TV will last years, and the boxes are cheap, keep the TV and keep upgrading the box.
You could even just keep a little media centre PC and hdmi it into the TV.
