Alan Young played his owner, Wilbur Post.

Alan also played the part of a friend of Rod Taylor in the Time Machine in 1960.

He was also in a remake of it in 2002.

He has just finished putting his voice-over to a 2015 remake of the Time Machine.

He's 94 years old (Rod died in January)

Not a lot of people know that.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.

Go right to the source and ask the horse
He'll give you the answer that you'll endorse.
He's always on a steady course.
Talk to Mr. Ed.

People yakkity yak a streak and waste your time of day
But Mister Ed will never speak unless he has something to say.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And this one'll talk 'til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?

Well listen to this.

I am Mister Ed.

Chestnut trained by Roger Curtis, stayed for ever, won the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter. Years earlier iron man Ray Goldstein had got it up in a Plumpton novices' chase to beat an odds-on front runner of Michael Robinson's that definitely wasn't expected to get caught. They were carrying 'em out to the station on stretchers that afternoon.

It was a great programme. Gentle, sweet, charming and often hilarious.

I've seen some of the programmes recently. Great family entertainment.

I would love to hear Mick Fitzgerald singing "Mr Ed" with a Beatbox backing.
