It depends.

If you actually thick enough to WANT the scandal of Rotherham (and many other Multicultural Paradise towns) repeated over the entire UK, schools and communities that breed Wannabe Terrorists, rampant FGM, Honour Killings, Forced Marriages, and a whole other exciting range of vibrant "cultural differences" to thrive here, then yes, by voting Labour you probably will secure it.

I will vote Labour so I suppose the cap fits, more importantly I vote Labour because I am not very well off

In general, the Conservatives appear to be much better at managing the economy than Labour.
Managing the economy better benefits all, not just the well off. We have to move towards a low
tax economy, where business blooms and employers are encouraged to take on more staff and pay improves in real terms.
People need to improve their skills to compete and find better paid jobs.

I think those that you speak of are misguided, rather then less intelligent.
Report bongo February 23, 2015 5:13 PM GMT
I like the question posed by lfc1971 - it's a general question. Of course there will be overlaps in the intelligence range of voters for different parties, so there will be a brainy X supporter clever than a thick Y supporter, but it can still be said that Y-ers are more intelligent than X-ers.

But how to measure intelligence?

Common measures could be:
1- The IQ test, but a lot of people with high IQ have parents with high IQ and were surrounded by high IQ teachers and pupils.
2- Income. Skilled work , and management jobs pay more. We assume that unskilled workers are less intelligent for if they were more intelligent they'd be taking the skilled jobs. This is a possible angle.
3- Can you think for yourself. This is clear winner for me. If you can't think for yourself than you're unintelligent. And the seething from Labour Central that people have to register themselves to vote and make their own mind up now, rather than the old method of getting someone else to do it for them tells you what you need to know.

Well I may have accepted this in the time Of Ted Heath, but not since Thatcher.
Because the only thing the Tories do is to attack socialism.

But from my observations in life, I do not think either socialism or capitalism is our problem.

The problem is our own personal greed. Nobody in our society, from the either the top or bottom,
will do anything for the good of society as a whole. Everything is always done out of
personal greed and selfishness. That is what has brought us down, and we will continue to decline.

We to need to change our whole ethos, be more like Germany, or we will continue to fail.
Whether we go right or left. We are becoming a collection of individuals, not a society.

just my own opinion

Don't forget that not long ago Germany was touted as the sick man of europe and the euro itself has at least in part been responsible for its renaissance. You also say that personal greed is our problem. I fundamentally disagree. There are millions of selfless people giving of their time for no/little reward in society. They are the heroes but the priorities of some especially in the media who bring us the news are skewed with the whole, "how big are your pecs or tiits or how good looking are you?" and if the answer to either question is very then of course your opinion however puerile must be of merit. Err no.

I do want to take issue with the whole Thatcher thing you brought up. The denigrated speech she made about society specifically cited what we can do as people to help ourselves, help our family and help our neighbours. A laudable and aspirational message totally twisted for a political agenda by the left.
Report Eeternaloptimist February 23, 2015 10:37 PM GMT

Sadly true Mikael

specifically cited what we can do as people to help ourselves, help our family and help our neighbours. A laudable and aspirational message totally twisted for a political agenda by the left

I am sure Thatcher wanted this, because these means that society as a whole no longer has any responsibility for those at the bottom or
the more vulnerable of us.
Which means the rich can now pay less tax and get even richer!
Anyone buying this would have to be as thick as sh!t

I am a socialist I believe society has a responsibility for everybody in society, but as I have said people
in society also have some responsibility to society as a whole.
Regretfully I do not always see the latter in this country.

The last time Germany was described as the sick man of Europe was in the early 1930's.

The fact that Germany is more socialist than us, yet patently out competes us,
tells me socialism cannot be the problem.

Report Eeternaloptimist February 24, 2015 1:53 AM GMT
Don't talk shiite ebul. Germany was labelled by many people and respected economists as such at the beginning of this century and at least partly what saved it was the fact that the euro was at a lower rate than the Mark would have been because of southern europe thus helping to lead an export bonanza which helped draw it away from the rocks. I can give you many citations for this and I can assure you that sick man of europe and indeed basket case were terms frequently used at that time.

Where we fundamentally differ is you clearly have this view that society is a "thing". A force for good if you like. The point is that it is just a word which essentially refers to the people and it is the people who are responsible through their actions to make the country a better place. Once you foist responsibilities onto this non entity of society then people stop doing many of the things they would do if they were cognisant of the fact that they are responsible at a icro leve for making their area better. "Society" asa  concept projects upwards peoples reponsibilities and when that happens there is always someone else to do what needs to be done. The problem being there never is. It's your responsibility to carry your burden and if you can do so comfortably it is also your responsibility to look around and see if you can help carry someone else's burden who is less able.
Report ebulGery February 24, 2015 1:57 PM GMT
You should learn to be polite Eternal, the only thing I can say to you is speak **** yourself

If you think our economy is in a better state than Germany, dream on.

We are a society, if you forget that we suffer.
But you are just a greedy selfish Tory who does not give a **** about anybody but yourself

I believe in socialism, society does have a responsibility for everyone in society and they in turn have a responsibility
to society as a whole.
Report Eeternaloptimist February 24, 2015 3:26 PM GMT
Well at least you've learned your lesson regarding your laughable assertion. I told you what Germany was called early in this century and now you are eating some humble pie so chow down. I didn't say we were in better shape than Germany. I said they have built their renaissance on the back of others. In the 50's it was us and the Americans. Recently it has been on the back of southern europe.

As for what I am you are incorrect. I'm neither Tory nor do I only care about myself. I just don't think your recipe for expecting others to do the heavy lifting is fair or doable. Look to yourself. If it needs doing get out there and help others. Don't expect others to do it and don't look to "society".

Back to the OP

I think it is unfair to question peoples intelligence just because they vote for a political party

We are all entitled to our own political views

I find people in general less intelligent than they were, because they accept far too much from our government and media as fact.

It is not fact at all, we are told to believe what we are supposed to, this does not make it true.

We seem to place a high value on ignorance nowadays.

We can question everything we are told in this world, I wish people would do this more.

One does have to back this up with some argument though
Report bongo February 24, 2015 9:53 PM GMT
We are all entitled to our own political views

You might think that, but the situation is more complex
Ever heard the phrase 'no taxation without representation'? There are roughly 1.9m EU nationals working and paying taxes in the UK at the moment. They have no vote on 7th May. There are also some 16-17 year olds generating taxation through their endeavours in the work place. No vote for them either on 7th May.

And as for Labour Party Central seething that people have to register individually to vote, rather than the old system where the head of the household being able to register other adults at the address, it's clear that this is the party believing it's disadvantaged if people have to make their own minds up.
Report ebulGery February 24, 2015 11:14 PM GMT
Do you really think that somebody from another country working here, is entitled to vote in our election?

because I don't

AS for 16-17 olds, that is arguable , but that means we lower our voting age to 16, so that is fine, if that is what we decide

My point was not a political argument, people get told what to think by all parties

and Media itself has a political allegiance, so it will reflect this
Report bongo February 24, 2015 11:24 PM GMT
Do you think it was right for American colonists to fight for independence in the 1770s on the grounds they had no say in their own affairs and were being taxed ( essentially robbed if you have no vote ).
Of course they were fighting for the rights of white men, but were they right to take up arms?
Report ebulGery February 25, 2015 12:14 AM GMT
This is hardly the same situation.
. The phrase was a clever one
America was a British colony. They were governed from this country. They had no government of their own or elected
MP's to the British parliament.

It had some merit. Because the people in our colony saw themselves as Americans not British.

It has no meaning the way you are using it.
IF EU nationals working here want a vote in our elections they must become British Citizens, or be born here
when they will be accepted as having British Citizenship.

You cannot have anybody coming to this country for work and thinking because they pay tax, they decide our government.

This has nothing to do with colour.

You cannot have anybody coming to this country for work and thinking because they pay tax, they decide our government.

Actually they get one vote each.

Turn it round though:
You've currently got people fecking off out of the country for 15 years and not generating taxes any more and they are getting the vote.

The discrimination is only because they're UK nationals not EU nationals. And it's suffrage racism.

And another thing : it costs £906 for an adult EU national to naturalise, and consequently get the vote. It costs £0 for an adult UK national to get the vote. That's pure discrimination across the EU / UK divide.
These absurdities in this democracy of ours is only possible because we are currently part of an over-priced tax racist EU super-state.
Report ebulGery February 25, 2015 1:00 AM GMT

Report ebulGery February 25, 2015 1:24 AM GMT
You see where this phrase was first used, our American Colony, it was always about more than taxation.

The rich American land owners, business men wanted to trade with the rest of the World, while they were our colony,
they were limited to trading with us

The Americans themselves had gone there away from Britain, Europe, Russia etc. They saw themselves in a new country,
their country. They had in effect decided they wanted to be Americans.

They fought a bloody 6 year war, which sadly we lost, that shows commitment
Report ebulGery February 25, 2015 1:26 AM GMT

Report ebulGery February 25, 2015 2:15 PM GMT
You see a lot of our problems are caused by people coming to this country who do not want to be British, they do not like us

When someone moves here they are making a commitment for themselves, and by default their children, children's children, etc to be British
and uphold British value

They can call themselves British black, British Asian, British Muslim or British whatever, but if there is no British in there somewhere
they should not be here or voting.
