A debate is to be held tomorrow on the above, by MPs. I don't think there's much chance of this being abolished but there's a petition if you'd like to sign. Needs signing today though.
On Monday, February 23 MPs will debate whether to end no-stun slaughter for animals. Please sign this petition before Monday to ask your MP to ban no-stun slaughter and stop this awful, widespread animal cruelty.
While we respect faith traditions with specific slaughter practices, scientific evidence shows that livestock feel fear and pain unless they are stunned first. Veterinarians say that cattle being slaughtered can take 2 minutes or more to lose consciousness, their bodies opened up and blood draining slowly from them.
It doesn't have to be this way. We have the technology to treat these animals humanely, and all slaughterhouses should be forced to do so.
Other European countries such as Denmark have banned slaughter without pre-stunning. Animal advocates in the UK are calling for an end to slaughter without pre-stunning, and on Monday February 23 MPs will finally hold a debate on whether to protect these animals.
Please sign this petition before the debate to let your MP know that you strongly urge them to protect animal welfare.

Signed. Someone made a comment that a lot of religiously slaughtered meat like kosher and halal are indeed stunned before slaughtered. If that is the case then all should comply with the existing law in any event.

Lots of tough talk and action on issues like smoking , the latest being smoking in cars containing children ........but barbaric slaughter of animals ,rather than a civilised humane method ,so as not to upset various followers of non existent dieties , not a chance ......we did win the last war didn't we ?

Hi Kenny, What exactly are we voting for?; Do you understand the proposed legislation? How does this affect chicken and turkey? Are these still to be killed by normal non stun means or is something else proposed?. Are you able to assure us that this legislation will not affect the price of the chicken in our ovens. I think we should be told.

Hi blackbarn. I know what is in my 19-00 post and that's it.
Does it really matter if the price of your chicken goes up 10p if they are killed humanely?

Kenny! So your 1900 post is the sum total of your knowledge on this subject? I never cease to be amazed that you continue to speak so authoritatively about a subject that you appear to know so little about.
So to be specific and very precise - how will what you are proposing affect the welfare of chickens?

ffs, you are an obtuse prik. I have never said or pretended that I am an expert on the subject of animal cruelty. I leave that TO the experts to advise me and act accordingly. It's clear from your various posts over the years that you care not a jot for animal suffering and act accordingly.Either sign it or don't sign it and fack off. I'm watching the cricket!

blackbarn why don't you fo and take your silly little smart a55 posts elsewhere. Does someone need to be an expert on the subject before they can ask that animals are killed humanely?

maybe they did it to those 1400 white girls too - stunned them I mean - again, rather humane i think and not the monsters they have been portrayed as.
Gives a new interpretation to the word stunning when applied to a young female.
I am getin gud att this tie pin lark!!!!

Akabula - it seems to me that I am not the one seeking to change peoples' opinions on here; I am merely seeking simple evidence for claims made.
I guess i could simply "fo" (akabula) and I could just be an "obtuse prik" (kenny mann) but actually as a raiser of stock, I care hugely for animal welfare and find a lot of the unsubstantiated claptrap on here ridiculous. I have respect for anyone who out of principle elects not to eat meat, but.....the simplistic and selective stuff verges on the ridiculous....
We have animal loving folks on here advocating new legislation without knowing exactly which animal it relates to and how.

You don't need to be a vegetarian or whatever else to want animals to be humanly killed. Neither do you need to know the intricate details. All you need to know is that it is humanely killed. Lots of experts out there to keep us informed of what's humane and what's not.

I am a huge fan of humane killing of animals I do not believe that most pre-stunning methods are less cruel than most simple throat-slitting methods. I believe you DO need to know the intricate details on this subject in order to understand it. I do not think that all you need to know that it is "humanely killed" because this is an all encompassing term meaning nothing. I am generally not a great fan of "lots of experts" on almost every subject.
Apologies for the I's, but then I appear to be in the dock

Well it looks like you're on your own in that view, blackbarn
From the RSPCA page
Evidence clearly indicates that slaughter without pre-stunning can cause unnecessary suffering.

ok, thats good (if you mean to eat and not hunt for fun)

mmmmm..... this is where you might find some people disagree

You 'believing' and 'thinking' is hardly an argument against me 'believing' and 'thinking' differently. What do I need to know. There are enough people to keep me informed as I said.

Thanks Emden, rabbit, squirrel and deer in season to eat, not sure I kill anything for fun, except perhaps Magpies and foxes.
Re pre-stunning, you can do your own research. Kenny quotes RSPCA, who may just not be the countries experts on the subject, and who may not even be the best experts on birds -

Akabulae - That is fine, Mine was an honest post based on what I know(?) and believe. I care deeply about wildlife and the countryside. I raise and sell stock to what I think are high and honest welfare standards. I have lived in rural Sussex all my life and am currently trying to pass all this history on to my grandaughter. How are you doing?

You say the RSPCA may not be the best experts on the subject. If not, why not? And who are the best experts? I'm assuming you know. BTW surely the 'best experts' and the 'maybe not the best experts' are still experts. Or am I missing something?

Akabula - re bird experts, the British Trust for Ornithology are a far better source than the RSPB. It is sad (and I have been a member of both for over 25 years) but the BTO is not reliant on the same source of income as the RSPB so does not have the same constraints in publishing predator control et al. You dont have to believe me, do some research yourself.

I can understand people killing animals for a reason, ie culling and etc but I'll never understand anyone who says they do it for fun. It was like the safaris of old. Trackers got them so close they couldn't miss then look all proud in the inevitable photo.
