makes it look like the NHS is not what is being portrayed ,all round this story shows a lot of truth .

no one was exactly rushing to help this dying man outside a hospital  not even the man who took him there .

the specky ginger steaming tower of p!sh  looks like a typical public serctor employee .... ,how come these cants are endemic in that sector ?

watched a news report of from a protest outside a city chambers ,it was all public sector employees shouting about keeping services and jobs .

got me thinking ,when the public sector employees are the only ones shouting about the need to keep these  services maybe its all a load of shoite ,and very poor value to the taxpayer ....is it the case that the public sector is not any better than the bankers ?  all part of the same  steaming pile imo

why do we need so many public sector jobs ?

constantly having to listen to the public sector  promulgation about what is right and waht is wrong

they have animals rights higher than humans imo .....horrible types ,full of nothing but know everything .

that guy is a typical public bot ,but who is driving the bus ?

I do not think it is all public sector workers

I think this is the general attitude of society today, people are encouraged to think only of themselves

and nobody else

There is no pride in a job well done any more, it is just about making money now, greed and self interest are everything.

The NHS is underfunded anyway.

This was disgraceful anyway,
Report breadnbutter February 14, 2015 2:53 AM GMT
agree the general public were shocking in this instance but its not a world i know ,it was a taxi driver who actually  responded, help thing kicked in ,the facking bot was not interested ,and that steaming pile is getting a good wage ,conditions and pension.
We need a pwoper debate about the NHS .

maybe its my northern working class background ,but i can spot a public sector type easily ,i dont feel they are representative of the population IN GENERAL they are a certain type and thats the problem .

this is unacceptable in my world and hope the guy gets his due reward ,as for the folks that walked past ,sorry but summit aint right ,or is that how it is darn sarf now ?

there is definitely a 'Public sector' type, they are drawn to life of monotony and safety, were failure to perform results in nothing happening. Teachers sacked? been a handful

Of course best/natural place for some services is in the states hands police/army/schools/trains and uk like the state to look after health (but not most dental work Confused )

The OP is an idiot, he is basing his view of "the public sector" on the actions of one despicable individual.

As the investigationg police officer said, "He [the paramedic] is no way an example of other ambulance staff, the vast majority of whom do a wonderful job in challenging circumstances".

I'm willing to bet that breadandbutter would be first in the queue to bitch and moan if there were no dustbin collectors, street cleaners or road gritters. Clown.
Report Dr Crippen February 14, 2015 10:27 AM GMT
Go back sixty years or so and all these libraries and parks and swimming pools they are closing now were being built then. They weren't cutting back they were expanding. That's when the country was really poor.
Now the public sector has been swelled so much with jobs that aren't really needed that we can't afford to run the basic services we have taken for granted.

It's diversity officers before dustbinmen these days.
Report Dr Crippen February 14, 2015 10:28 AM GMT
MisterBadger, instead of calling the OP an idiot why don't you answer his question?

why do we need so many public sector jobs ?
Report G1_Jockey_4 February 14, 2015 10:31 AM GMT
always been a gap and perceptions between public and private workers.

worked in both and the difference was this.

if you private sector boss shafted you you generally didnt have a leg to stand on or no where to go.
if it happened in the public sector you had a union behind you.

i guess some people like being trodden on and not being able to fight back...

bit like gimps

While others get cushy overpaid jobs in the public sector with little chance of getting the sack, and fat pensions and early retirement.
Paid for out of the taxes of workers at the sharp end whose feet wouldn't touch the ground if they failed to perform.

Is that what they call socialism, one set of pampered workers living of the backs of others?
Report GAZO February 14, 2015 10:47 AM GMT
i thought the bankers worked in the private sector
Report CLYDEBANK29 February 14, 2015 10:50 AM GMT
why do we need so many public sector jobs ?

The only people who can answer that are people with expertise in that area.  Anyone else is just a pure guesser.

As for the unfortunate Carl Cope, from the footage it seems the person most to blame for his death was himself.  He must have known that being so overweight was liable to lead to a heart attack, yet he did nothing about it.  The ambulance man has paid the price for his actions, but I think in all likelihood the man couldn't be saved.

As for young people, public sector workers, private bankers etc. we get confirmation bias from the media, bias that has been put in our heads by the media in the first place.  The reality is often the exact opposite to what is drip fed into our brains.  I think generally people are more responsible than they were, but one thing that has definitely changed for the worse is blame culture.
Report Dr Crippen February 14, 2015 10:51 AM GMT
Are the banks overstaffed as well?

Many workers I know in the banking sector can only dream of getting the jobs and conditions available the public sector.
Report brendanuk1 February 14, 2015 10:51 AM GMT
Calling private sector workers 'gimps' seems to sum it up for me.

There is a sense of arrogance & superiority in public sector workers because they are simply employed by the state. They like to call it socialism or unionism but it isnt either of them. Public sector workers in hospitals or schools are happy to see low paid outsourced cleaners treated poorly without a second thought. They probably think they are 'gimps' or something

Ever heard of a public sector manager asking for a reduction in the number of his staff?

The first thing that any manager does when he gets a job in the public sector is to appoint an assistant manager.
Then when the inevitable cuts come they'll have someone to sack instead of him.
Report GAZO February 14, 2015 10:59 AM GMT

I've only ever worked in the private sector.  I never came across anyone asking for a reduction in their number of staff, only people asking for more.

Report CLYDEBANK29 February 14, 2015 11:13 AM GMT
The only public sector are I know much about is teaching and people in the teaching profession work much harder than they did 20-30-40 years ago.  There is a shortage of teachers in maths, physics and chemistry.  If the job and conditions are so cushy why is there such a shortage of teachers, barring the fact that prospective teachers will get much better paid elsewhere?
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 14, 2015 11:17 AM GMT
who said teaching was cushy job ?
Report CLYDEBANK29 February 14, 2015 11:17 AM GMT
IS I've absolutely no idea what point you are trying to make let alone what relevance it has to the point I was making.
Report Dr Crippen February 14, 2015 11:22 AM GMT
Is the shortage of teachers down to people not wanting to do the job or a shortage of cash to train people?

With the expanding population there is a greater demand for many more workers. Paying for them is another matter.

That is one of the problems with high immigration. At the end of the day it becomes very expensive to maintain the public services.
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 14, 2015 11:25 AM GMT
Government dont want to pay or invest in nurses so they go for cheap fix and import trained workers, which harms our nation.

I would had thought the main reason for a shortage in teachers is that you have to be skilled and will only earn an average wage in the end.
Report Dr Crippen February 14, 2015 11:30 AM GMT
If the job and conditions are so cushy...

Of course there are demanding jobs in the public sector, you can always point to certain areas where they're worth their salt.

Nevertheless that is far from typical of the public sector. It remains a very cushy and well paid place to work.
Report Dr Crippen February 14, 2015 11:32 AM GMT
IS, I would think the biggest reason for people not wanting to go into teaching certainly at the lower levels, is the problem of having to keep order amongst unruly kids.
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 14, 2015 11:40 AM GMT
Certainly would be a major concern after pay.
Report paddletoe February 14, 2015 11:54 AM GMT
I don't think you can talk about the public sector unless you start with the greatest example of a public sector industry being paid and indeed being rewarded for failure than the banks.

Any reforms of the public sector should have started with the banks.

Btw in the video on the opening post here how come no one has mentioned the actions or rather inactions of the two people who first saw the man who had fallen down. I mean the person pushing an empty wheel chair and the person with them. They were surely hospital employees and they looked back at the injured man lying on the ground as they entered the hospital but they did nothing.
Report Dr Crippen February 14, 2015 12:45 PM GMT
It seems impossible that it could happen even in a place like Walsall.

"He is no way an example of other ambulance staff, the vast majority of whom do a wonderful job in challenging circumstances," said Det Insp Spanner.

you mean another way of being in denial that you can do fk all when a private sector boss stitches you up?

thats what the private sector is all about.
in the past they used to get a higher wage for it so they could justify the shafting when it happened.

all they are doing is doing a job for someone else to cash in.

There have been studies which suggest the most Machiavellian, psychotic and selfish people are Chief Executives and TV stars.  I don't know where nursing and ambulance staff figure in that spectrum but I'll hazard a guess it's at the other end of the spectrum.

I'd also take a stab that private sector workers are more selfish in general than their public sector counterparts
Report brendanuk1 February 14, 2015 7:44 PM GMT
