If we could only persuade the Aussies to get their sh1t stars off our flag too. Always think it is a bit pathetic having the union jack on your flag if you're not British. Grow up and let go of the apron strings ffs. Canada's flag looks brilliant, sure the convicts could come up with something that epitomises the nation - A kangaroo, or ayer's rock or An aborigine drinking a can of XXXX perhaps.

Hear, hear. All that's needed then is to remove St Patrick's Saltire from the Union Jack.
Funny how Southern Ireland is happy to continue to receive massive financial support from the UK, propping up their banks, collecting their debts (NAMA), lending their economy billions etc. Without the UK you go bust.

St Patricks saltire represents N.Ireland, cannot be removed.
Northern Ireland didn't exist when it was added, so why not?
Also, the English flag is easily distinguishable, as is the Scottish. Where on the flag of Northern Ireland does St Patrick feature? Is that his hand?

the union jack is made up of the flags of 3 countries England, Wales and N.Ireland
It's hard to drive 100 yards in Northern Ireland without seeing one flag or another. Put a call out to anyone who actually lives there and see how many times they've seen anyone, of whatever persuasion, flying what you describe as 'the flag of Northern Ireland.'

There was a time when I'd only refer to it as 'the north of Ireland' or 'the six counties.' I/we've come a long way, aka!

% of Betfair forumites that knew the Union Jack was on the Fiji flag before this week = 0.2% imo
