Seems good news to me.  Cracking voice, presumed she was long gone.  She comes with the highest of recommendations:

She is a favourite singer of Vic Wilcox, manager of an engineering firm in David Lodge's campus/industrial novel "Nice Work", winner of the Sunday Express Book of the Year award in 1988.

I certainly wouldn't have ever paid to listen to her.

Still going strong at 75 according to wiki and recording a second album of Beatles covers, last one was in 2012.
Lovely singer.

Can't really be doing with female singers, but the few I do like are normally the black/motown sorts.  Nina Simone my favourite.  Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin etc all cracking.  Could count the number of white female singers I like on one hand.  Joni Mitchell.  um.  Joan Baez?  that's it.  oh I Liked Amy Winehouse but then she sounded black anyway.

akabula.... sad to say that the reason she crossed my mind is that song and the advert it is in recently.  What a cracker though aye.  didn't know it was her until I looked it up.  Always loved Killing me softly too.

Been loads of covers of her songs as well. Agree with you on the singers.
Roberta, Aretha and others like Dionne Warwick's songs have stood the test of time.
They gave us those three and many many more but we gave them oor Cilla. Laugh
