Good to see the BBC upholding their Saturday afternoon sporting tradition.

From 1.00pm, BARGAIN HUNT - possibly featuring Harry Redknapp looking for a late Transfer Day deal
2.00pm, ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY - this must be the Samuel Eto story
3.00pm, HOMES UNDER THE HAMMER - Mario Balotellis guide to cut price DIY.

In all seriousness, is this the best they can offer for a Saturday afternoons viewing? David Coleman must be turning in his grave.

I had a good friend once (sadly now departed) who was a massive Spuds fan. And he told me that GC was quite simply the most imbecilic person he had ever met. Which is probably why he ended up at the BBC.

I wonder can GC tie his own shoelaces yet
Report mememe • January 30, 2015 1:04 PM GMT
The BBC is just one big gravy train ... GC makes the quota ... the BBC would like him to be a woman, really.

I have never taken the BBC seriously, and especially since I found out that the Science Editor went to Eton (no problem with that) BUT he then went on to get a degree in Physics, err no. then Chemistry, err no, then Genetics, err no.  He got a degree in ... can you guess ... yes, of course, it's Geography.
But his family is well connected.

Lots of discontent in the athletics world.  This weekend just gone was a Grand Prix indoor meeting in Glasgow, which has been on TV on the BBC every year since it was first staged over 30 years ago.  Used to be at RAF Cosford, then Kelvin Hall, Glasgow.

Admittedly, non-athletics fans probably couldn't give a toss, but it's seen as another nail in the coffin for athletics (the clear no. 1 Olympic sport) on the BBC.  Their athletics coverage has been getting consistently criticised in recent years for too much studio chat and focus on British also-rans, whilst events are going on in the background.

Considering the fuss they made about Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and how great it was for the region, to then discontinue coverage of the city's biggest annual athletics event is appalling.  The three programmes above (all repeats) were shown on Saturday instead.  Although indoor bowls was on BBC2 at the time Cry

Wouldn't be surprised if BBC sport ceased to exist in a few years' time.

Oh   for the days of watching Dave Vickers and Jeff Smith duking it out in the mud and the headscarfed women urging their caterhams up the steep inclines of an impossible hill.

Even when they "did" sport the producers were a bunch of clowns, leaving a 5f head bobbing photo at ascot unannounced to rush to netball from Basingstoke (probably recorded).they still like to show recordings from the snooker even when the same match is ongoing live, its as if they don't know the internet, betting sites etc exist, bless 'em

football focus , on the ball , , weeks highlights in the Tour de france in 10 minutes , racing on both stations , speedway at 3pm , second half highlights from Headingley at  4pm(Leeds having undersoil heating could guarantee to be on)
Report scandanavian_haven • January 30, 2015 4:35 PM GMT
Football focus is a bit pointless, everyone is watching Soccer Saturday which starts 15 minutes earlier, They should put it on at 11am instead
Report Danno • January 30, 2015 4:38 PM GMT
Best way to watch MOTD is to record it on Saturday night, resisting any temptation to flick over to it if you're in.
Then watch it on Sunday morning, fast forward all the post match interviews, "punditry", analysis and chat.  You can watch all the action inside of 25 minutes.  Usually the first two matches take about 35 minutes to get through in normal time.

they can put what they want on tomorrow as I am off to meet slippy's niece (ps don't tell him)
Report sixtwosix • January 30, 2015 6:04 PM GMT
Last week was the first time I have watched MOTD this season , too much stating the obvious post mortems filling the soap opera that is the Premier League.
Report Jack Hacksaw • January 30, 2015 6:12 PM GMT
Danno - that is exactly what I do.

It is a toss up which is more predictable - the post match interviews or the punditry.

Some people have to go to work all week. You know...that bit where you get up early, go out all day and get home tired?? Perhaps they might just want to relax to a nice, calming edition of Bargain Hunt or similar. There's plenty of your gambling crap on other channels. Why the Hell should the BBC need to know about internet betting sites?

Also, the broadcasting rights might not have been available for the aforementioned athletics event or it may have been too expensive to cover. Perhaps it was considered too minor for coverage.
You all seem to want to see things that YOU, personally, find interesting. Life's not like that.

Got to go...Busy afternoon relaxing ahead.

the BBC are a disgrace.

They invested over £50m into F1 as soon as particular person became champion, they didnt give a toss 2 years before when Button was looking like a british champion and delivered the following season.

Then they ditched a british tradition by giving away the Grand National.

Then they claim to cover more football games then ever, guess what, they have added womens football to that figure, i would love to know the viewing/listening figures for womens football.

When they try and promote the thrill of the fa cup they then show games with the top clubs involved in.

Britain have some superb young tennis players, have they shown them, have they fook.
Report naydam • January 31, 2015 1:01 PM GMT
Everything costs money. You can't spend more than you've got. The firm relies upon revenue from licence-holders. Sad
Report Ibrahima Sonko • January 31, 2015 1:02 PM GMT
they spent over £50m on F1

more than any other sport !
Report naydam • January 31, 2015 1:14 PM GMT
I have no doubt that F1 is very expensive to buy the broadcasting rights outright. Possibly even the dearest of all. Although, of course, it is a sport that covers about 20 weekends during the year. So they get many hours of television from their investment.
I suppose it's all about balancing the books.
Report naydam • January 31, 2015 1:18 PM GMT
They probably couldn't afford sole rights.

They showed the Oz Open womens final this morning. The commentator constantly referred to 'Sharapova', not 'Maria', but 'Serena' and not Williams.

I turned the sound off.
Report Ibrahima Sonko • January 31, 2015 1:46 PM GMT
originally they paid that big figure for sole rights then sold it to sky when it was questioned for 60 hours of racing a year.
