Me too never get em any more..probably no brain cells left..Laugh
Report Aunty Post • January 29, 2015 3:41 PM GMT
Seriously, I never have a hangover.

Strange really, when remembering "The Whirling Pit", and associated nausea that went with it!

I don't do this with any conscious reasoning, but always have water at the bedside in a chrome "Thermos" jug,
which is always drunk during the night.

I can't just remember which of "The Rat Pack" it was that said he was sorry for people who don't drink, because when they get up
it was the best they will feel for the entire day!

Dean Martin I think.

never had one until I hit 21. My old man never has them but I suppose that's because of the years of training at the brewery.

I'm in my 50's, I'd had enough of hangovers by my late 20's, the pleasure just isn't worth the pain.

1 day on the sauce = 2 days to recover

hangovers becoming more brutal as the years go by

anxiety, depression with some major bouts of THE FEAR
Report The Bhoys • January 29, 2015 8:56 PM GMT
29 here and the depression i get from hangovers is unbearable absoutley awful
Report Burton-Brewers • January 29, 2015 9:22 PM GMT
I read somewhere that your fitness determines the severity and recovery rate of your hangover, that must be why mine takes a fortnight to get over.
Report Navel-Gazer • January 29, 2015 9:27 PM GMT
I'm 49 and I find my liquid prescription is the best tonic to stave off the gloom - no hangovers drinking spirits is a huge bonus for me though 4/5/6 pints is well enough as any more and I can feel it the next day...I felt like shít last Saturday for no reason other than 9 pints the night before which was well over my limit - that was a rarity for me and I'm planing on avoiding that tomorrow night.

It was strange to feel 'down' without anything particularly distressing having occurred and there's more than a grain of truth in this thread.

PS - when I drink real ale in the boozer (if it's available) it's treats me a lot better than the normal gassy balls that's probably laced with all kinds of shíte.
Report PugMunter1 • January 29, 2015 9:30 PM GMT
think you could be right there burton brewers

will be a trying out this method 2nite before heading to bed

litre of water
multivitamin
2x Paracetamol and Codeine

8 hours sleep and be ok for 2moro fingers crossed

Avoid hangovers ,Stay drunk imo
Report Cork Langer • January 29, 2015 10:53 PM GMT
Never appreciated how fortunate I am not to suffer any effect from the drink until I stayed over at a party one night and saw the suffering of others the next morning, an episode that has been repeated regularly since marrying, though not sure if it is the hangover that is bad or it is just an excuse for the wife to have a lazy day...!
Report PugMunter1 • January 29, 2015 11:12 PM GMT
your a lucky man cork langer

i could do 3 nights in a row clubbing in early twenties and be sound as a pound for work on monday

all changed from 26 onwards Cry
Report Mc Moonbeam • January 29, 2015 11:16 PM GMT
How old are you Pug Confused

I used to drink like you & Bhoys but then realized it's not the booze that makes you depressed , you drink because you're depressed & then becomes a vicious circle where it's the only thing that cheers you up a bit , drinking so much is v dangerous & addictive long term
Report PugMunter1 • January 29, 2015 11:21 PM GMT
im 30 mc

had a massive binge at xmas time then took a month off it til last week

physically felt a lot better - mentally also better but didnt notice a dramatic change

ah cool I'm 39 but was still out drinking into my early 30's

I've been off the beer too as have quit smoking for the e-cig

got a bottle of brandy in to keep me warm Happy only mix a bit with a drink though
Report Mc Moonbeam • January 29, 2015 11:30 PM GMT
agree I don't really feel much better or healthier when I don't drink , but it's long term you'll notice it !
Report PugMunter1 • January 29, 2015 11:38 PM GMT
brandy very nice drink

i think just even limiting it to maybe once a week at home is quite reasonable then having a night out with mates once a month would be a good balance
Report Mc Moonbeam • January 29, 2015 11:48 PM GMT
as much as I love a night out I've always enjoyed drinking & smoking by myself , maybe just my depressive nature but isn't fun to do it all the time & just leads back to depression again Blush
Report PugMunter1 • January 29, 2015 11:54 PM GMT

just the smell of it is enough for me now , but enjoy Wink
Report bodil • January 30, 2015 12:12 AM GMT
In the end it will kill you prematurely.  You just have to calculate will the joys of the longer sober life exceed the thrills/spills/pain of the shorter drinking life.  I think I know the answer but the body has a mind of its own.  Oh no I don't.  Oh yes you do.  Come outside and say that.  See you, Jimmy ...

Report liam1982 • January 30, 2015 1:08 AM GMT
for me it all depends what i drink, i cut out gluten recently and if i drink stuff without it, guniness, cider etc i dont get them, if i drink lager they last for days
Report Mc Moonbeam • January 30, 2015 1:11 AM GMT
Having a job ain't all it's cracked up to be either though mate , it's tough either way
I've made my way own way for years , sat on my pc for 10 years & it's depressing the hell outta me , but would be tough to even find a job after not working so long , I don't even want the money so that's a bit of a problem Scared

the trick is to balance everything imo , if you have time not working then use it wisely & enjoy yourself while you can Wink
Report PugMunter1 • January 30, 2015 1:22 AM GMT
mate i enjoy the free time etc but had a good while enjoying myself

i want to be able to go out and enjoy myself without havin to worry about cash - so basically need a job to do that

Lads if you are at a loose end and have time on your hands, go and find some voluntary work, you'll be amazed how rewarding it can be just doing something simple for someone who is unable to do it for themself, a smile or simple thank you from someone less fortunate than yourself for your assistance, can raise your own spirits and self esteem remarkably quickly.

I have been volunteering for a number of years now and can honestly say it is the best decision I have made since I chose to leave the rat race, give it a go and see what you think, all you have to lose is a little time.
Report PugMunter1 • January 30, 2015 1:37 AM GMT

Trying to give something back really pugmunter, been fortunate to date in life, with family, health and financially and whilst still in good health myself, feel I should use the time wisely to earn a few brownie points for when my time eventually comes...!

Over a week I'd say I probably do up to 30 hours, as an aside, you'd be surprised how many people you get to know and the amount of offers of work you receive through getting to know them and forging a bond of trust and in many cases friendship.

Best of luck with whatever you choose to do with yourself, hope you find fulfillment
