just wondered how many views this thread will get.
Its a subject that most guys do not talk about.
I am not divorced but I feel sorry for a guy who is or is going through a divorce
because I know that the law is stacked against the man.
No matter what the reason is for the divorce the law seems to take the womans side in my opinion.
So I was thinking that if a thread was put up some of you guys may be able to help so of the other guys who are going through a separation.
because it is a tough time and anyone who can get any help or good advice would be glad to get it.in my opinion.

it's not that stacked it depends on how long you were married. My parents were married 30 years and it was more or less a 50-50 split.

I know that it can get real bad in some cases,i am sorry to hear about you mum and dad divorcing but at the end of the day it just two people who fell out of love.
And nowadays it is sort of normal.

yes and I dislike that, people give up too easily today instead of making things work. Celeb culture.

Which is all well and good, but my mum, for all intents and purposes did f*ck all, from when my sister was 11. Literally f*ck all. We had a cleaner and a gardener, and my sister and I both went to boarding school on scholarships.

My dad, on the other hand got up at 5 every day to go into work and didn't get back until about 8.30. They didn't divorce, but if they had, I have no doubt that it would have been inequitable.

Wife's step bro is getting divorced.

His ex wants the house (which he used inheritance for)
And £39,000 a year from his wages. They have one child who's 19.
She earns a good wage all ready and had child care as soon as she could so could return to work.
Report pumphol. • January 27, 2015 11:39 PM GMT
The 19 year old is no longer a child, she not entitled to more than half of everything they are jointly worth.

I OWNED A HOUSE WITH MY EX WIFE AND I HAD 2 GROWN UP CHILDREN ,THE HOUSE WAS PAID FOR ,I HAD NOTHING,AND THAT MEANS NOTHING I MOVED IN WITH MY MAM BUT BECAUSE THE DEVORCE  WAS CAUSED BY ME ,I WOULDNT THINK OF HER BEING HARD DONE TO ,SO I SIGNED IT OVER TO HER ,AS I KNOW MY CHILDREN WOULD GET IT ,IF ANYTHING EVER HAPPENS TO HER ,
IF IT HAD BEEN HER FAULT THEN I WOULD HAVE WANTED SOMETHING AND MADE HER SELL IT ,

Just asking (btw, I noticed you posted on another, more serious thread (Holocaust I think) in lower case) ... so you must have one, somewhere.

My mum and her sibilings managed 7 divorces out of the 6 of them.

All my dads' brothers were divorced .....apart from my Uncle Bob who passed away last year after 50 years of marriage.

It was the norm in my childhood .... I am up to 16 years married now , hard to believe any woman could put up with my insanity for this length of time.

Do Wah
We've not really spoken before although I do post quite bit on the forum and have been here for a few years and have seen your many posts.

I think I recall you once posting that you had you CAPS lock stolen by a baboon in a wildlife park.
Am I correct ... or is my memory failing me?

By the way, I don't condone people for clouting their naughty children - I just wish they'd ask me first ... I'd give some of them a right oncer.

But feel free to post in CAPS ... I'll just turn the volume down a bit. Happy

Males 25 - 50 biggest cause of death is suicide. I would bet majority of these gone through divorce/separation. Lost the wife and the house, little access to kids, Child Maintenance reducing income dramatically, living back at parents or in bed sit. She's in the house, with the kids, no doubt with a new boyfriend, spending his money. No wonder really is there?

If you can have an amicable split and avoid the courts then do so. Will save you a few quid.

If not, you will need decent legal representation. Your solicitor will ask you to be a bit hard nosed about things. Listen to him/her thats good advice. Dont be under the misapprehension that your wife wouldnt stoop so low, so neither should you. Her 'brief' will advise her to go for the throat.

Its a nasty business and very easy to be tempted to let her get her own way. But dont do that. Hope things do not get that far for you.
Report pawras • January 28, 2015 3:42 PM GMT
I've yet to see any divorce or split of long term partners be amicable. After all if it could be that amicable they probably wouldn't be splitting up.
Report Blackrock • January 28, 2015 3:47 PM GMT
Had 2 divorces, 1 was amicable, the other wasn't.

We both agreed to split in a friendly a way as possible, and are still on friendly terms to this day.

The other was a bitter affair.

What do you call long term,  was married 8 years with her for 13, the solicitor said this is the most amicable split I have come across, still speak to her about every six weeks & I've been married now for 17 years.

That's the key BB your proud which means your obviously still very much in love with your wife, nowt sad about that.
Report pawras • January 28, 2015 4:10 PM GMT
These days anything over 3 years is reasonably long term.

If you haven't bitter recriminations of one form or another then I think you are the exception rather than the norm.

some people get on with each other by arguing all the time, and when they split they miss the arguments.strange.
And I am told even if you end up hating your partner and want out it is still very tough to make the change after the separation.

I think I've been very lucky, after reading this thread.

My wife and I met when we were both 15.  Lived in same road, first and only love for both of us. Married at 20 and been married 45 years this year.  2 daughters both happily married and grandchildren.

I don't want to sound smug or patronising because I count my blessings BUT ...

the secret of a happy marriage is to marry a women that's:

- attractive (but not in a movie star way)
- a great cook
- a happy disposition
- agrees that you're usually right
- a great mother
- a wonderful homemaker
- is a winner on Betfair

I'm still looking but when I find one I'll let you all know.  Must go now and get's the wife's tea, she's just back from a 12 hour shift down the pit. BlissHappy

Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
