An extremely difficult decision to make, but after a few hours analysis I'd have to plump for these.

1. Dennis Roussos R.I.P. - the Great Man single-handedly turned the Mediterranean into a holidaygoers playground. Every British femme fatale wanted to dine outdoors while being personally serenaded by Dennis, regardless of whether some local ne'er-do-well unscrupulous waiter would take advantage of the distraction and rob their purses.

2. Mr Dennis - the ultra-violent newsagent who lit up many an edition of 'Vic Reeves Big Night Out'. No newsagent ever stocked a finer selection of sweets.

3.  Dennis Priestley - the man they called 'The Menace' was the first man to be a BDO and PDC World Champion. Perhaps a tad too deliberate on the oche for most tastes, but there's no disputing the respect the Great Man is held in.

4. Dennis Wilson R.I.P. - the late great Beach Boy.

5. Dennis Dunstable - "Bark, Bark". Say no more.

Did I miss any?

Yes. Debbie Harry was in love with him.

But proper Dennises have 2 n's. There's only going to be one winner of that contest and he appears on the front of the Beano every Thursday.

Maybe so screaming but we have to make allowances for canny Scots.
Denis was an Aberdeen loon and I think at that time you paid by the letter when naming your child.

Would the Dundee-based firm behind The Menace be any less canny though? Only thrupence per issue when I began my sub.

They say the reason we got 2 pages of Billy The Cat per issue was because he wore a black costume, so that the, er, canny Scots publishers saved about half a farthing per copy on coloured inks.
