Take your child to A&E with a few suspect injuries and you'll have a lot of questions to answer but it's ok take a child in who has obviously suffered FGM.
When a health official was asked on radio why these cases are not reported he said it was culturally delicate so from that we must assume that there are some UK residents who are immune from UK laws.

I recall chatting to a pal 10+ years ago who had moved to the Luton area..

His wife was pregnant and I asked if he knew the sex of the baby.

a sensible secular society would criminalise FGM and circumcision on minors where there was no clear medical need for the procedure to be carried out prior to the child reaching the age of consent. It really is that simple; it's a basic principle of medical ethics that you don't operate on people unless there's a need to do it.

(and before any of the penile cancer, HIV arguments come out, would you also want all your daughters proto-breast tissue resected at birth if she carried the BRCA2 gene? - or do you think that's a decision you might want to leave to her)

you can't go chopping off bits of your children's bodies, or getting someone else to do it on your behalf, because of some hokey old superstitious mumbo-jumbo.

the reason we get ourselves into so much trouble and confusion is the hypocrisy in allowing ethically equivalent transgressions for some people and not for others and it is nearly always down to "religious and cultural sensitivities" and the ridiculous exemptions they seem to permit.

Doctors to be struck off for ignoring FGM

Doctors, nurses and teachers face the sack if they fail to report cases of children with female genital mutilation under a new law announced by the Government yesterday (thursday).

Ministers are to put health care professionals, including social workers, under under a mandatory duty to report cases of FGM on girls under 18.

The new duty will operate when the abuse is disclosed by the victim herself or discovered during a medical examination.
Health care professionals including doctors, midwives, social workers and teachers, will have a month in which to report the abuse to the police.
